SpaceX won't list Starlink in 2024

SpaceX will not pursue an initial public offering of its Starlink unit this year, according to Bret Johnsen, the company’s chief financial officer.

“It’d be more in the years to come,” Johnsen said Tuesday at an industry conference. The unit became profitable for the first time at the end of last year, he said while declining to provide more details.

Starlink subscriber numbers:
  • 1m in December 2022
  • 1.5m in May 2023
  • 2m in September 2023
  • 2.6m in March 2024
Growing quickly
Given Elon Musk's history with the SEC and some activist investors, I hope he can keep all parts of SpaceX private for the foreseeable future.

When you're trying to do ambitious but risky things, the last thing you need are a bunch of risk averse investors trying to get you to be more like Boeing.
They probably made a nice hefty profit from supplying the US DoD with a Contract for Ukraine after their intial free offering.
