Spam call-blocking service a hit in South Africa

Best thing since sliced bread. That and Adblock for websites.

It does? So instead of Private Number it shows the actual number? Or is this sentence poorly worded?

I have true caller, it does not show private numbers.

Badly worded by staff writer. It will identify people that are not part of your contacts, if they are on the Truecaller database. I still get "Private Number" calls, but do not even answer those. If the companies want to hide their identity, then they are not worth dealing with.

It does block private numbers. I've seen it notify me that that it blocked a spam number that was hidden.

Looking at Truecaller on the iOS app store, is there no free version? R12.99 per month or R114.99 per year are the only options?

Truecaller is a battery hog. My AV package has a feature to drop all numbers which are not in my contacts list. Perfect for me.

I'm on an iphone so can't speak for any other phone, but I added to my contact list: Spam1, Spam2 etc.
ANY unwanted/ unsolicited number via a call or sms, I first block, then add to one of my Spam contacts.
They are filled up fast, but now much quieter.:)
I really don't want any apps getting into my contacts.
If i can do without an app, great...keep things as simple as possible.

True that, and it has an option to auto-block private and "unkown" numbers as well.
In my opinion, if it is a legitimate call, they will leave a voice mail.

I signed up to DMASAs opt out and do not really get spam calls luckily, so no true caller on phone. I use the truecaller website to investigate numbers and to name "prankster" Africans that call me as "Prankster".
