Is it possible to set up a Linux box with SpamAssasin and other spam busting goodies to filter spam before forwarding the clean mail to an Exchange 2003 server?

As things are now, Exchange 2003 is on 192.168.0.1, it sends and receives mail (and stupid, fugly spam) from outside.

I was thinking of putting the SpamAssassin box on 192.168.0.6, portforward SMTP in to that, and let it eat spam for a living :D

The box should be able to receive all mails, clean the junk and spam, and then forward it to the Exchange server.

Also, there must be some sort of management console where you can retrieve legitimate emails which got flagged as spam.

Is this possible?

Many thanks

Have you considered Untangle ? You can run it in bridge mode and it has very good spam detection rates, as well as a built-in quarantine.

I am using it in 3 locations, and all customers are very happy :)

Clearly you don't know anything about Mimecast then. I have clients on Mimecast starting from 2 users up to in the hundreds.

If anyone is serious about their email AND being compliant then look at Mimecast.
