South Africa's speed limits vs the rest of the world

South Africa's road fatalities are high relative to other countries, and policymakers have blamed high speed limits for contributing to the problem.

However, comparing South Africa's speed limits to other nations shows that ours are not necessarily out of sync with the rest of the world. Our limits are high relative to some countries, but low compared to others.

What i loved with driving around in the US. They very serious about you not driving outside of the crowd. If you driving too slow they will pull you over and fine you. We really need that, especially for the a holes who love to do 80 in the fast lane and move over for no one.

Driving tests are there to serve car makers by creating future customers. People lacking driving skills also contributes to fatalities. Up skilling learner drivers is not enough of a priority. People should have to retake driving tests when renewing their licenses.

Drove on the Autobahn for the first time a few weeks back. Most were driving at 110km/h with the exception of maybe 2 cars on my 30 minutes on it going at most 140km/h. 2 excluding me so 3 in total.

Was the speed de-restricted? How were the traffic levels?

Not congested, had my pick of lane at anytime. Say the equivalent of JHB to PTA on a Saturday morning.

No speed limit, I was totally surprised at the most going under 120km/h. Expected Porsche's and Lambo's to come flying past as I have seen on Youtube but none.

In the fast lane I moved over twice and I was doing around 130 to 140. Pushed it to 165 because well childhood dream on the Autobahn, wife noticed and went back to 130 for rest of the journey at which I was passing most traffic.

You see, we don't need speed limits.

Will lower speed limits prevent fully loaded taxis speeding in the emergency lane to undertake cars on the M1?

I see taxis going as fast or faster than cars in the fast lane while using the emergency lane and I am waiting for the day one of them causes a nasty accident at an offramp, as they cut across them from the emergency lane.

We have a policing/law enforcement problem, not a law/rule/limit/restriction problem.
