Speed-stick connect causes laptop to crash due to conflict with Connectify [SOLVED]

Hi.

When I connect my speed-stick (black) to my laptop the cell c dashboard pops up (connected automatically before) and when I click on the "Connect' button, my laptop reboots
I am running windows 7 and the modem did work previously (still works in my wireless router).
I can't think of anything I have done/installed that would cause this problem.

I have tried reinstalling modem software as well as trying the 4.2 drivers

Any help/advice would be highly appreciated.

Does your computer reboot when running other apps? Or is it just the Cell C connection manager?

Only the Cell c connect manager - no other apps running

Is it a dell laptop? Some dell laptops have a problem with power to usb devices that can cause problems( freezing, rebooting )

Turn off that feature in Windows that reboots the PC instead of showing you the blue screen of death. This might help identify the problem.

I recall some proprietary VPN software causing a similar problem.

Just out of interest, which speed stick are you using? ZTE/Huawei? And which model?

I have tried my Speed stick in various models of laptop and I have never experienced this ever.

Try and narrow the problem down --- uninstall any application/software you installed recently could be a conflict somewhere.

Another solution would be to uninstall the drivers of CELLC and reinstall them.

Hopefully it's all fixed now.

ginggs mentioned VPN software might be an issue. I had a service running called Connectify which allows the laptop to become a wi-fi hot-spot. This I uninstalled and cleaned the registry. For good measure I then uninstalled Cell C dashboard and did another registry clean to make 100% everything was gone.
I am now using the speed-stick to reply to this post which means it works.
