Hi Guys
after trying various sites Via HSDPA tonite which one would the team say is the most accurate ? when are Voda allow us to know which tower we are logged on to ? so we can determine some of our problems ? v3g where are you (who never replies to direct mails ) when these type of poor performance problems occur in KZN ? who's the local fundi ? Thinking of pulling the plug and trying another SP as getting no responce from THE PEOPLE I PAY :( :( :

now dropped to 186 d/load and 86 u/load Has someone got a wind up handle for this system or an intelligent pidgeon ?

Now just past 21.30 Sat 29/07 (2006) just in case you think this is not LIVE !
any other poor paying subjects in the Pinetown area who have the luxury of at least being able to log on !!!! and may have a comment ? IT took 3mins to allow me to edit this post !!!!!

I would say all tests are accurate, but you need to understand what you're testing, the path, type of test, etc. Here are some links.

Cell Broadcast on 3G/HSDPA is due in a future software release.
v3g where are you (who never replies to direct mails )
Trying to spend some time away from the forum, it's 10pm on a Saturday, after all.....(I thought you PM'd me not to mail you? )

Best is to log it with 155 (voice or mail) who will escalte to the regional support people.

Logging with 155 is a waste of time and not enviroment friendly as response is futile glad to you're working this time of night but VODACOM do provide a 24/7/365 service and I expect IT TO WORK 24/7/365 Or expect very reduced rates for POOR performance which I don't seem to get at work in Waterfall

The tests done were with the vodacom site ( which has been more OFF than on lately ) and other sites via my broadband ect You hve got a major problem in Pinetown area at peak hours SORT IT OUT !!!

Just to qualify some of my mails I live in the Paradise Valley ( Sunny Birches )complex in Pinetown on the 5th floor under the vodacom Tx which is on top of the lift tower of Sunny Birches 4 floors above me and possibly 80 mts away I can see the Tx poles from my balcony ( Paradise Valley was the busiest cell site in early days and I watched them install their equipment on the mezzamine floor ) I am a Tv tec who has run my own business in Waterfall for over 8 years and always supported Voda ( check 0829531292 for how long ) and do understand connection type problems But getting very frustrated with Pinetown speeds

Time 10.55 No better speed Time to sort this out !!!!
Any other forumits experienceing the same dis-comfort ( polite discription )
Personal replies can be sent to email pjg777@vodamail .co.za

its now 09.30 on Sunday and speed test is 312kbs d/load any snails out there want to have a race !!!!

ic thanks for your intervention at least someone is reading my posts and i am not talking to myself which is the case when dealing with Vodacom or 155 Busy doing important things like my washing so be back later

Hi PJG777ZN

Have just sent you a p.m. about the same time you posted, your posts are being read, and not just by myself, no need to keep bumping the thread with multiple consecutive posts.

Regards

ic.

now 10.03 ic if you sent me a PM ? its not in my inbox yet ! was it a personal reply ? How high are you in the food chain that you can manipulate the mail into one message ? and if so why can't you give a good reply to the problem or even sort it ? Now doing 188/51 Has this thing got reverse gear ?
its now 11.30 speed (ha) shows 18/226

I do not work for Vodacom, I am the moderator for this forum on MyADSL.

@PJG777ZN, my best suggestion, is that you try calling 155 again but [post=604268]use the callback function[/post] at the start of the call, as per v3g's advice:[post=611488]

[/post]Something else worth remembering is that while there could be a throughput [or other] problem with the base-station your HSDPA hardware is connecting to, speed is very dependent on signal quality and strength - the better the quality of the signal to & from your HSDPA hardware the higher the speeds that can be achieved.

For example [if you're using a notebook] compare the speeds that you can get in a couple of places outdoors [preferably as much of an unobstructed view to a nearby Vodacom base-station - cell tower] with speeds indoors, if you can get a significant increase in speed by temporarily moving outdoors, then the problem indoors is one of walls etc obstructing & generally interfering with signal strength & quality, in which case you need to move about indoors to find a location where the signal is better. If you cannot get better speeds outdoors then there are a few other possibilities, e.g. the server(s) you are downloading from or uploading to has(have) a speed limit, or the base-station has a problem or its backhaul links, or your HSDPA hardware has a problem.

Step 1 is to figure out whether you are experiencing signal issues - HSDPA is afterall wireless and subject to wireless oddities...

Also ran a test:
Download Speed: 28 kbps (3.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 56 kbps (7 KB/sec transfer rate)

Is it normal for the download speed to be slower than the upload speed?
Is there a setting somewhere that one can default to the quicker one of the two? :D

PJG777ZN, the Natal guys are aware of the problem and are looking into it. I've forwarded your contact details to them.

Turn your laptop through 180 degrees. :)

I've passed this on. What speed are you getting at the moment?

Your frustration is shared PJG777ZN. I have had 3G since June last year and upgraded to HSDPA this year as I was starting to play online games. When I started using HSDPA it had absolutely amazing speeds, and I posted a number of positive posts on this forum regarding HSDPA. Plus when running World of Warcraft, the international latency would sit at around 600ms which was highly playable.

Well, for the last week it has been absolutely terrible. I am sitting in my office, which is the same place I was sitting when getting the proper speeds before this week. Nothing environmentally on my side has changed, so what the hell is Vodacom doing on there side

Phoning 155 is an absolute joke as I don't have the time to wait for hours to get through. Ironically I got through tonight and as the consultant said hello my cell cut the call. Go figure (also using Vodacom as my cell SP unfortunately)

Frankly I am tired of this, and am already investigating alternatives.

Here are my speeds to highlight the issues (Parklands, Cape Town):

Local
Download Speed: 181 kbps (22.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 229 kbps (28.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

International:
Downstream 49.3 Kbps ( = 0.0 Mbps )
Upstream 35.5 Kbps ( = 0.0 Mbps )

Plus when pinging www.google.com
latency shows as around 2000ms, and I get numerous timeouts. I've done this test everytime I get disconnected from World of Warcraft, and it's always the same issue.
Multiple timeouts when pinging internationally.
What's going on?!?!?

Ran a test at work (Lynnwood (Pta), close to border with Hatfield) this morning, also using SE V800 as a modem. Results (much better!):
Download Speed: 359 kbps (44.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 43 kbps (5.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

Will check speeds at home tonight.

Ran a test at home (Mooikloof, Pta), also using a SE V800 as a modem. Cell display indicated GPRS at 5 bars, only rarely 3G at 1 or 2 bars. Results very disappointing!
Download Speed: 26 kbps (3.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 12 kbps (1.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

SoTrue, can you open up DU Meter and run a few speed tests and mail me a screenshot of the graph. I'd like to look at the profile of the downlink data, i.e. is it all over the show with high peaks, or is constantly flat.

vodacom3g, unable to add attachment or paste screenshot to PM. Has this something to do with my profile here?

Nope, no one can send attachments via p.m., you will need to email it to v3g, or post a link to it hosted on a site like http://imageshack.us
