FISHborn sorry to threadjack, but if I may, could I suggest a modification to your request.
From my experience, the Telkom ADSL speed test is highly erratic (I've had 300-1024 Kbps) from the iBurst network, and will reveal little about whats cutting on the iBurst network for the following reasons ...
1. Its loaded by 75,000 DSL users testing every now & then
2. Results are dependant on the load on the peering (via UUNet I think) between iBurst & SAIX
3. Since the site is external to iBurst and it goes through their proxy & bw mgr, both of which are dicey at times
Can I suggest something a bit more deterministic & scientific.
The
www.iburst.co.za site seems realitively stable & fast, and I believe its located before their flaky bw mgr & possibly their proxy server. If this is true then the speed of downloading the same file from the server will only test the performance of core network link to your tower & the radio link from the tower to your UTD/UTC. I think this is the info you're where trying to understand?
Lets say we agree that the file we'll use is
http://www.iburst.co.za/downloads/UTD Windows.zip (use right-click -> Save Target As). Everyone can download this file with their web browser and report the ave. download speed shown at the end of the download.
Other important info to include would be time, tower you believe you use, signal lights you have (1-5). For those that access the UTD's diagnostic interface quote your best cost Bscc (tower#) & and its signal cost. Also mention what antenna you use e.g. internal or external.
How does the above sound to all ?
