Over at PCFormat a user who was on 384 has been reported to have 4mb upgrade - upon calling ISP and Telkom both confirmed he is on the 'speeding up the lines' trial run

Telkom is testing the inpact of boosting line speed in my area

--does this sound correct? Why only one locale? Exchange? May not relevant to even think that they will be rolling 4MB to all 384K liners; can you imagine the feeding frenzy this will create if it goes live at some stage? Well at least there is an indication that TELKOM is admitting (at least in this test area), that 384K is not (do-)broadband.

It was NOT trialled in any Eastern Cape exchange area.

- 384k to 512k
- 512k to 1MB

and for a fee!! only 4mb user wll be upgraded for free. Eh, we should probably wait for Telkom

not for a fee. It says "the same fees apply". Which might just mean the fees for rental will not go up... why is Telkom so quiet with the 1st of June two weeks away? ARRGHH!!! they're gonna drive me insane!!!
