Speedup international bandwidth using hosted server

Hi All,

As the title suggests, is it possible to speed up international bandwidth to my connection by making a vpn connection to a dedicated hosted server in a datacentre with good international throughput?

The reason I am asking is, I tried it using a normal PPTP vpn, but international speeds stay the same.

My current speeds without VPN is:
10Mbps Download Local
5Mbps Upload Local
2.5Mbps Download International
2Mbps Upload International

With VPN
9Mbps Download Local
4Mbps Upload Local
+- 2Mbps Download International
+- 2Mbps Upload International

It is worth mentioning that when I use a download manager I get full 10M/5M on international downloads.

But when streaming, I get the slow speeds as mentioned above, but on the dedicated server it works 100%.

Am I doing something wrong?

In short, no. The lower speeds achieved using the PPTP VPN are in all probability due to VPN protocol overheads.
