Banded huntsman aka rain spider by the looks of things.

They kill and munch pests so try not to kill it please :)

It moved off to a shrub, I assume it's a female. Saw a smaller one a few days later in the same area. Thanks for the ID.

No probs and props for you not harming it.

I used to be sh*t scared of spiders until one day I was on my way home from my gf on the KLR and one of these crawled out from underneath my speedometer while I was on the N2. It ended up crawling into my jacket and I could do nothing but ride until I got to a quiet sidestreet where I stripped so fast I made Teazers look amateurish :p

I think I lost my fear of spiders that day, and I am quite comfy today picking them up and moving them with my bare hands :)

Hell no, I would have beat myself like I was on fire if I had one up my sleeve. Still give them a wide berth, but have a worm farm, so don't like poisons in the garden.
