Sports-only streaming package won't come to DStv if MultiChoice is bought by Canal+

Sheesh. If you're worried about the seasonal nature of a sports-only package then make it a 1 year, 6 month or 3 month minimum subscription. Arguing that it seasonal just admits it's not of any value half of the time. ESPN, UFC etc are all pay per view or sports only. The sooner all sporting bodies go direct to consumer like F1 and bypass this nonsense the better.

This is the most selfish explanation I have heard yet to maximise corporate profits. Consumer preferences and demands seem to be of zero consequence. Beware, ignoring consumers has come back to bite much larger companies than you in the ass; and in some cases bankrupt them. Have you learned nothing at all?

maybe they (dstv/canal+), should look at how ESPN/Flo etc handles a sport package.

Maxine has a point... Discounts.

DStv seemed to rather want to die than give someone even a mere 5% discount.

Why not make it R500 p/m but then you need to subscribe for 24 months. Follow the cell network operator model with data.
Not having a price increase for subscribing for 2 years sounds like the lamest incentive in the world.

Linear TV is dying a slow but inevitable death. It only makes sense for highly curated channels (think MNET of yesteryears before dstv), live events and live programming. Essentially these old TV companies believe that value is having hundreds of channels with scheduled programming on loop which people will flip through until they hopefully find something to watch or plan viewing according to a schedule.

Canal+ have ESPN

If they have DSTV they will have the rights to other sports.

€ 14,95 / month

WATCH ESPN COMPLEET WITH FOUR ACTION-PACKED SPORTS CHANNELS

With CANAL+ you can stream everything from ESPN Compleet for just €14.95 per month. This gives you access to ESPN Complete in addition to more than 75 TV channels, films and series. On ESPN you can watch every match live with all Eredivisie matches, the best matches from international top competitions and all the largest American sports competitions such as the NBA, MLB, NHL and NFL.

The buyout will cost Canal+ over R30 billion in cash,
Crazy to think that this is just 3 times more than what DSTV paid for Premier League exclusivity in 2017.

Here we go again. Why must they listen to "customers". The "customers' want all the sport in the world for R500/m, probably even less.
Thats not going to happen. F1tv is probably the cheapest sport streaming and its about R120 a month for 1 sport.

And yet I can buy ESPN+ for $11 per month which includes F1.

Yeah F1TV is the "cheapest" but its not just an F1 streaming platform, its Porsche SuperCup, F2 and F1 and a ton of other fluff that I don't give 2 shytes about.

F1 are making the same mistake the linear TV guys make, we'll hike the price and add more stuff cos its what our subscribers want, when all that the subscribers really want is the F1 stuff like Free Practice, Qualifying, Sprint, and Race content.. everything else is irrelevant really except for the hardcore fan.
