As the title says, what are potential problems of buying an OEM SSD to the "original" SSD? I understand that warranty is also only normally 6 months with the original seller but other than that is their any other drawbacks?

The prices are a lot cheaper going OEM but if you loose on performance ect then obviously I won't even consider going the OEM route.

Anyone out there that has purchased an OEM drive?

I have an OEM 840pro in my laptop, it works perfectly and is mad fast.
If I was buying another one I would go OEM again.

Yeah was looking at the Samsung EVO or PRO OEM versions - do you know which is better or are they the same?

Same product, cheaper price and only a 6 month warranty. No other difference.

Buy OEM. Zero issues.

The PRO is faster than the EVO, that is about it in terms of difference.
Still it would be very difficult to notice any difference between the two.

The Intel OEM drives have a 5 year warranty if you RMA it to them

The only differences other than price between OEM and non-OEM, is the labeling on the drive and shorter warranty.

Do you really care about the labels on a drive once it is inside your pc?
As for the warranty, you really only need it, if the drive is broken on delivery, in which case 6 months is more than enough. I have 2 of these OEM drives now, and neither has given my any issues in the 4-5 months I owned them. I have had nothing but pleasure from them.

Performance on both OEM and non-OEM is the same. I have 2x Corsair SSDs and 2x Lite-ON OEM SSDs. The Lite-ON's are far better than the expensive Corsairs which I bought with Ebucks. If you going for the OEM Samsungs, even better! Go Pro!
