Nah. Stand-alone systems are exempt. As long as it’s not connected to the DB.Do you have to register power trolleys and generators?

So if you have a genny with changeover switch connected to DB?Nah. Stand-alone systems are exempt. As long as it’s not connected to the DB.
as far as i understand the trolleys as long as it just plugs into a normal plug outletDo you have to register power trolleys and generators?
The engineer told us as long as it’s connected to the DB it needs to at least be registered but it’s unlikely it will need the whole DGSL, structural engineer, etc. report… their logic is changeover switches fail and if that’s all you have between your grid and home then it at least needs to be approved and on the CoC.So if you have a genny with changeover switch connected to DB?
Split prepaid meter….I have one already how do I know if it is split. If you want to feed back then you'll need to apply for a tariff change to Residential SSEG, the rates are in here. You will have to foot the bill for the AMI meter and there are requirements for "metering accomodation" at your own cost too (street facing meter box, undergound supply cable).
If you don't intend to feed back then you just need a split prepaid meter if you don't have one already, at CoCT's cost. These prepaid meters will use up credits if you push anything back, so just make sure you limit backfeed or set a minimum grid draw (Deye default is 20W).
Split meters are the ones that you plug into a wall (e.g.) to power it up and add units or check the balanceSplit prepaid meter….I have one already how do I know if it is split.
Not necessarily plug-in, ours ("enlight SIENNA") was installed in Feb 2022 and looks like a conventional prepaid meter but it communicates via PLC to the actual meter outside. I can't see anything on it that would indicate this though, not even a PLC comms LED.Split meters are the ones that you plug into a wall (e.g.) to power it up and add units or check the balance
I have my permission to install, just waiting for permission to turn it on.Applied end of December 2023. SSEG COCT
Permission granted on 7 September 2024.
Commision approval on 8 September 2024.
Cost was R6500,00 through the installers.
Yeah they are communicating with communities one at a time but the law apparently says it’s illegal to connect a generator to the grid without the proper DGSL and other OHS act safety bits in place. They’ll reach out at some time and tell you your systems are all illegal until registered. If you ask them now they might speed the process up.Time when i got my solar system installed in JHB, installer said it wasn't a requirement from Eskom Direct at the time. If it has changed, i haven't heard or seen anything from Eskom asking that we apply.
