Stage 2 load shedding announced from 11am today till 5am Monday

Made it through the 4am to 6am slot and even used the 4kw geyser while my bedroom aircon was running.

I just changed my settings for when load shedding is active to keep my batteries at 80% overnight. Screenshot_20220203-062938_SOLARMAN%20Business.jpg

Fine, but then invest in sound proofing, I am busy looking at various type of sound proofing. If you live in a suburban area. This is a basic requirement.

How close are these generators that they actually wake people? My neighbours have one and I have one and when they are running it is not that loud that I can't sleep. But then again I live on a road that's become a main road thanks to people trying to bypass the main road.

I think it is because I stay in a very quiet neighbourhood, so any sound at night just sounds much louder.

Ah possibly, but sadly we've had our neighbour running his generator 15 hours a day as he was out for 48 hours last week.

No generators are allowed to be run in our complex after 10. That being said we were meant to be hit with two slots yesterday, nothing happened.

Our neighbour has a big diesel generator that kicks in whenever there's even a blip in the power supply. He's made an effort to keep the noise under control with a purpose built generator room but you can feel it running.

On the flip side I've got a 2500 inverter generator and it's a noisy bastard. I probably annoy him as much as he annoys me so it balances out.

Hmmm, we have the exact same rule? With a R500 fine if found out.

Staying 40KM's away from the city does make man made sounds stand out. Hell, at night its so quite that even my own Mecer inverter wake me up when set to 20A.

Seems like CoCT skipped our entire area this morning between 2 and 4AM, strange. Not complaining though.

Eskom figures for this evening's peak period

Total demand: 29 249MW

Eskom Available Capacity: 30 414MW

No emergency diesel generators were used, Eskom rather shed 2 385MW in the form of Stage 2 loadshedding in an effort to build up diesel and water reserves for the days ahead.

Looking good over 30000mw on the grid atm

Well, baseload Eskom capacity has greatly improved the week but as others have commented, not enough given our relatively high usage (for a summer).
