I wonder how long it'll be until Eskom feels the negative effect of inverter systems until they want to regulate the sales.
Already happening. That's why they want to institute new billing rules
Remember couple years ago a colleague spent a small fortune on a solar system.
Not long after, ESKOM came a knocking.
To check his meter.
Needless to say, he was not a happy chappie.

That would actually be less disruptive to the economy IMO. Simply declare stage 1 load shedding for 6 months so they can do maintenance rather than repairs.

A higher stage may be better, high enough to stop using the ocgt. Diesel ain't cheap.

The dickheads arrived at me mates place to cut off his electricity.
After he told the twats he had been off the grid 2 years ago.
Told them to cut off his water as well since he has his own borehole.
This totally baffled the idiots.
He still gets billed for water and the privilege of having the twats tell him he still has to pay for having Escum since the wires go past his house.
He does not pay them a penny.

A solar system installation will get a knock on the door from NERSA for a separate reason. The energy regulator is required to obtain evidence that a certified electrician did the installation and in bigger units sufficient maintenance is conducted. It’s mostly a fire prevention protocol.

You really don’t want people in your neighbourhood doing these jobs themselves without this regulation.

The way I understand it is that you’re not obligated to connect to the grid.

Ive had the minicpality at my property (in town) requesting to look at my borehole and the paperwork..
Told them to piss off...They said they were coming back with legal paperwork and I had to register my borehole....

Not trying to be funny or anything. SA is a serious failed State. SA loses 1.2 million Euro every hour it has LS. Money not to recover. Mango crashed and burned. Distell sold to Heineken. Money not to stay in SA. Also Distell to be removed from your JSE. Unreal. No wonder Rob Hersov said SA is not investable.

Geez my kid(and no doubt thousands of others) is writing 1st year Uni exams online and has this **** to contend with now, yet elections were spared.
Education is not a high priority for the ANC government.

The problem is, so many people really do take this type of thing as a joke. Especially those who either don't realize the direness/severity of the predicament, or have no idea what type of self-service & sacrifice it really takes on the individual level but collectively as well, to build a productive and successful country/economy. No sense of responsibility, just the free ride and free loading that comes with it. They're used to the legacy of a "centralized state" providing them with all of those core functions - a safe and functional society to live in, and taking that all for granted. Entitlement and dependence appears to be all they know. Unfortunately that paradigm seems to be eroding fast over here so the real chickens are just about getting ready to roost... I don't think it'll be a laughing matter for much longer at this rate. I also don't think the apartheid scapegoat will hold up when **** really hits the fan. They will know who is really accountable for the dismal cards they've been dealt over the past 3 decades, and heads will finally begin to roll. Accountability and justice has been sorely lacking around here for the past few years, but such state of affairs can never be sustainable as we continue to see greater levels of corruption & disrepair. There will be a breaking point / "lightbulb moment" soon I'm sure, even for these eternal jokers/optimists who refuse to see our shared reality and the raw deal we're expected to put up with in this country, for the **** it truly has become at this point.

I always hate to hear it, but as difficult as even I find it to believe, it seems people are right in saying that things are probably going to get a whole lot worse in this country before they ever improve. Stage 8-10 is probably just around the corner, and a "national blackout" is looming ever closer by the day. And that's just our energy crisis... yet the decay is far reaching in all areas of society and the effects are already spiraling out of control. The scary part is, everyone just does what they must to mitigate inconvenience and proceeds to go about their normal day. Can you blame them? Taxes are increasing and prices are skyrocketing, how are we supposed to survive? Even rural life seems more appealing at this rate. What is the reward for making a positive contribution anyway? What impact can we even have when government insists on running everything themselves (and then failing to do so each time)? At least perceptively speaking, nothing is actually being done to reverse this trend. Nobody is claiming responsibility.... Eskom's "war room" turned out to be the biggest joke / ****-show of them all. Of course Molefe and De Ruyter don't mind... you can bet they received their end of the deal plus some bonuses, as usual as Gwede continues to contemplate more power plant contracts and the Turks are rubbing their hands together waiting for that imminent moment where we'll be forced to give in to their powerships

In my opinion, this is what happens when the people as a collective, forget the purpose and place of government. When we've forgotten that WE were the ones who created government, with great intentions that have not been realized. Government should serve and facilitate for the people - not command, dictate, tax and surveil our every move. When we've forgotten that it is OUR responsibility to take the power back into our own hands when that government fails us. Politicians should be public servants, not power-hungry dictators. We don't want more warmongers like Malema for leaders. We need competent people in their trade as our country's ministers. The old farts like Pravin Ghordan really need to go. They're nothing more than the figureheads of a failed dispensation. Why do we still tune in to hear what they have to say? They have lost all credibility and respect at this point. No amount of their eloquent speeches or endless excuses will do anything to actually address the real problems we're facing on the ground. How do we change this? Where do we start? It is our responsibility after all.

You'd think spending hours in the dark with nothing to do but contemplate how far we haven't come would lead more people to start thinking along these lines and, at the very least, stop voting ANC. But alas ... fools will be fools, and jokers will be jokers, I suppose! At least there'll be some violin music and not all screams of hopeless despair as this titanic casually slips below the water surface to its sad, lifeless demise, deep and dark on the ocean bed of history. Not like we'll find that sort of music very appropriate while we're busy choking to death on freezing sea water and probably being pulled into it by all of those who can't swim to save their own lives.......but hey
