Best credit card deals from South African banks

Many of South Africa's major banks offer entry-level credit cards with minimal monthly fees that can help young consumers start building a good credit score.

These cards often also come with some added value in the form of membership to banks' rewards programmes and other perks like free travel insurance.

The minimum monthly income appears to be wrong on some of them. However, I didn't read the article so it may just be me.

But surely you don't need R84 000 per month to have an FNB Aspire account?

Discovery requires a r100k minimum income monthly? And FNB r84k? Seems a little high @Jan

That's what their docs seem to say.

These are for standalone accounts. If you take bundles from them, that comes down.

/in before "cReDiT CaRdS ArE BaD" and "only an idiot would want a credit card"

Not sure when you guys did the research but Capitec cards now work with Google Pay. Capitec credit cards also pay users 1% on all swiped/tapped/scanned/online purchases.

Wow... giving a Credit Card to someone who earns R84k per year seems like crazy reckless lending in my opinion.

TBH, given what I've seen of the banks... I wouldn't be surprised to see R10k credit limits on those cards.

Especially what FNB offered me on my card a few years ago... it was just retarded.

Probably have a high percentage of losses priced into their business model then. Bastards.

I think that it's about how a person uses a credit card. My limit has been above the value of my car for years but I still only use the card for monthly expenses and pay it off in full each month.
