I think that it's about how a person uses a credit card. My limit has been above the value of my car for years but I still only use the card for monthly expenses and pay it off in full each month.

Without a doubt, my card has a stupid limit, but its only used for monthly expenses as well, and the occasional big one which I've stashed the cash away for.

All depends on what the limit is, a R1000 limit would not be reckless, a R100 000 one would be.

I would personally say extending unsecured credit "revolving" credit to a person earning R7k a month is reckless purely by definition.

Granted I am also aware that I am considerably more conservative with my use and attitude towards credit than most people.

Cheaper would be to get a cheque card with overdraft. Its basically half the credit interest rate than a credit card.
