ya guys and girls , as the title states, at the moment i am stuck with standard bank and would REALLY love to move over to FnB or absa !

Can someone point me in the general direction for a casual banker who does not want to get raped in the face with bank charges ! i usually just draw all my cash at once and leave the rest that be for the debit orders...

Capitec if you don't need a credit card, home loan etc. Otherwise FNB.

I am with Absa, but would choose FNB (heard a lot of good things).

For a savings account that runs debit orders and limited internet banking, not drawing cash often, Capitec is by far the winner.
Things get messy if you want an Access Bond type of solution though.

Def. FnB. Less bank costs. Better Service. + Paypal integration. NOT Nedbank. They take your money and cannot explain why.

Any reason why you are looking to leave Standard Bank? What exactly are you banking requirements btw?

Standard also has 3 pricing option.
Pay as you transact, Refund (maintain a minimum balance and you will get a certain refund on your charges) and plus plan / bundled (fixed monthly charge which includes a number of free transactions). Enquire about this first before considering a switch.

You may as well stay with Standard(or any of the other "old" banks) and get a savings account at Capitec. Capitec's lack of ATMs is a problem, but they have by far the best interest rate.

Strongly believe it is a case of six of one and half a dozen of the other. I will bet the banking sector staff generally move between the big four banks so service levels would be on a low par. Also, where one bank nails you at door number three, the other nails you at door number seven.

since im not on the "student" account anymore im getting raped a bit with transaction fees , last i checked i was on the plus account with no cellphone or internet banking, would like those services free though !

i checked out capitec's website just now and enquired about my debit order that needs to be moved , which im sure it will be on the same day or 2 ? i know capitec has an atm problem still but they are popping up randomly more at places id like to see them :p like galleria mall. then theres FnB with the cool services like cellphone and internet banking that will make life alot easier as im always on the pc.

The only way that would work is if you open a Capitec account and manualy transfer your salary (minus debit orders) from Standard Bank to Capitec via internet banking, which could take 1 to 2 days to transfer. They poster you quoted probably meant something else.

I'm sick and tired of hearing this Capitec lack ATMs nonsense, it costs R7 for a any ATM transaction at any bank for any amount with your Capitec card. Standard bank was charging more than that just to withdraw R500 from their own ATM and the debit orders cost me 3 times more. I just moved my debit orders with my providers and follwing their change requirements and moved my salary and have been very happy for over 2 years...

True, with capitec you don't really need a capitec ATM. Generally it's cheaper to draw at any other ATM than it would be if you were banking with the bank that the ATM is for! Plus there's pick and pay, checkers and a few others. Only problem is if you need stuff like housing finance they generally prefer that you deposit your salary with the same bank.

...are you bonkers? Loan. Capitec. Those two words in the same sentence just do not wax well. They got some seriously high interest rates the last time I checked...

you guys are aware that you can just draw money from pick and pay and pay less in bank cost every time you do your groceries? Just ask them at the till and they overcharge you say 300 on your recipe and give you the money out of the drawer. You save a lot more. Pick 'n pays are a lot more common than ATM 's

I was going to moe away from Standard Bank (still did a thread about it) two months back and I'm still with them. After looking more into bank fees, service & how much I dislike them, they ended up all the same.

Capitec looked the most promoising but still has many problems with their internet banking - something thats important for me. But I will actually be opening up a Capitec account tomorrow as a savings account for the family as for this purpose it seems the best.
