still has many problems with their internet banking

Care to elaborate? I'm with Capitec (just opened an account), and although their internet banking web-site is seriously, seriously basic, I can check statements and do payments. I'm just wondering if there is something I've missed?

Perhaps consider a move to an Achiever Current Account at Std.
Transactional fees are way higher on a savings account, instead of a current account as you are discouraged from spending with a current account (You are supposed to SAVE with a savings account).

I have been with Capitec for 2 years and will stay with them for as long as their banking offers what I need. They are expanding all the time to offer loans, home loans etc so they might land up being the all-in-one I need in the future. Their internet banking site has no issues that I'm aware of. The only gripe I have is that you withdrawal limit is 5000 maximum daily which you can ramp up but it's only effective for 3 days.

+1. I would also like to know. I use it quite often and I've never had any issues.

I'm with FNB, and don't pay any fees, and I am very happy with them. Otherwise go for Capitec.

ya guys and girls , as the title states, at the moment i am stuck with standard bank and would REALLY love to move over to FnB or absa !

Can someone point me in the general direction for a casual banker who does not want to get raped in the face with bank charges ! i usually just draw all my cash at once and leave the rest that be for the debit orders...

I'd avoid Nedbank like the plague. Heard more bad than good about ABSA. Which leaves you with Standard, Capitec and FNB.... Can only help you so much, may the force be with you!

I am with FNB and I am very happy.

The internet banking is easy to use, works very well and with Paypal capabilities they are really a good choice. Service is good and their Forex department is leaps and bounds ahead of what ABSA have offered.

Capitec - the rest will rape you ! Capitec will eventually get there, will take some time but at the end that would be the route to go. Not sure if they've got cheque accounts yet though.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but after reading it I sincerely felt I had to put I my 2c...

ABSA
When I was growing up, I had an United Bank Help U Go account, which was for kids and teen. United became ABSA when they merged with Allied and a few others. In 1997 I took a personal loan for one year, from them to fix up my car. Six months later I was retrenched. I went to my branch to find out what to do. They told me that I need to extend my loan for five years to reduce the monthly payments. They gave me a bunch of forms to sign and sent me on my way. My mom read through the papers only to discover that one of the forms I signed was to cancel the insurance on the loan which would cover six months installments in the event of job loss or disability. So I went back and complained. The bank manager who got me to sign the forms said I should have read them first and it was my own fault. So I stopped paying, they took me to court, and I won.

FNB
Had an account with them for less than a year. My fees were freaking high and when I queried it, they told me I was on an old fee schedule. They changed it and a few months later they switched me back to the high fees. Account closed.

Standard Bank
Have my business account with them. Terrible service. Over draft only works when they feel like it. Will be moving my account very soon.

Capitec Bank
Excellent service, excellent fees, excellent bank. I have a mastercard debit card with them, Online purchases have to be verified, which is super cool. Loan rates are fair when compared to other banks. No bonds or business accounts which is sad. I do all my withdrawals from PnP. Checkers cant use my Capitec card, always gives an error. Incoming EFTs from other banks usually clear within 12 hours. Pr8blems are sorted fast and they call you same day to update you. Internet and mobile banking is very simple, but functional.

Nedbank
Gave me a credit card even though I dont bank with them. Gave me a 95% bond as well, first time. Refuses to open a personal account for me. Moving my business account to them as they will give me NAEDOS for doing my clients debit orders.

Best bank? Capitec then Nedbank.
