Over 2000 athletes descended upon Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa for the Standard Bank IRONMAN African Championship, on Sunday 29 March 2015.
The race was a gruelling 226km triathlon of epic proportions and ranks among the top five IRONMAN races in the world.
Standard Bank congratulates every athlete that took part in this year’s Standard Bank IRONMAN African Championship.
Nikki Twomey, Executive Head of Marketing and Communication Standard Bank Group said, “It is inspiring to witness the magnitude of the emotional and mental dedication that the athletes have endured throughout the entire race.
“Each and every one of them came here with their own personal mission, but finished the race with one common goal; to prove to themselves and to all of us that in life, as in IRONMAN , you Never Stop Moving Forward,” said Twomey.
A special mention to the category winners who set the benchmarks that all their fellow athletes’ measure themselves against.
Standard Bank congratulates Frederik Van Lierde (Belgium) who took a clear victory and Jodie Swallow (UK) the crowd favourite who edged victory after an exciting battle towards the end.
Frederik Van Lierde was the first man home, completing the 3.8KM swim, 180km cycle and 42.2km run in a time of (8:16:34) followed by Ivan Rana (8:30:44) from Spain and Bart Aernouts (8:35:58) also from Belgium.
