Top 2 franchises go through to the Indian IPL Championship later this year which is a great incentive.

I am watching the Warriors vs Titans. Warriors looked dead and buried batting first at 80 odd for 5, but Davey Jacobs just knocked the Titans bowling to all ends of the park in the final 2 overs. He hit 5 sixes in a row!! Great to watch. Titans need 170 to win.

Even though Roelf Van De Merwe was on the receiving end of some Jacobs pummelling, I still think he is a potential Protea - I'd take his spin bowling over that of Harris or Botha any day...

Yup, it was mentioned that he was/is the top player in the domestic champs for the past 2 seasons running and it would be nice to see him given a run in the Proteas setup.

Looking forward to watching my boi Bodi smashing some huge sixes. :D

DJ you cannot look at bowlers in pro 20 and access if they are good enough or not.

I'm not - I also started the MTN domestic potential thread. I watch plenty cricket Killa. Roelf is a decent death bowler and actually yes, you can make a fair assumption of how good a bowler might be in the limited overs format of the game based on how they bowl in 20/20 - but of course that's not the only indicator. Roelf bowled 3 overs at a run rate of under 2 an over in a 20/20 match, and at the death as well. That's a mean achievement and is indicative of his death bowling talents which he showed in the MTN series as well.

By your standards then we shouldn't judge batsmen either. Just think about it for a second before hitting submit. Of course one can make a judgement on how a player bowls in 20/20 cricket, by watching how they bowl in 20/20 cricket. Unless you think I was judging his entire bowling abilities based on what I'd seen in 20/20.

Argh, that comment wasn't really worth this lengthy reply, but I'm drunk so why the hell not!?

There is a big difference in judging one's batting and one's bowling.

You can get a guy like albie who can consistently hit runs fast in 50 and pro 20. It is very rare you get a bowler who can go for less than 3 runs in pro 20's.

Why i say you cannot judge a bowler is because for 20 overs 10 batsmen are looking to smash him all over the ground. In 50 over and 5 days cricket they are not looking for 36 runs an over off his bowling. Look at shaun pollock , one of the best bowlers we have ever had in terms of conceding runs yet in pro 20 he used to get hit for 6 an over sometimes even 8 or 9, Bowling in pro 20 is all about hoping a few okes don't out and middle everything you throw at them, then you will have a great night.

No i did not think you meant his whole career went up in smoke tnite because he got hammered in a pro 20 :p

but then you would look at the relative performance to other bowlers.

Not really because any bowler on any day can be hit out the part for 10 an over, i personally do not judge any bowler on a pro20 performance purely because the game is not setup for a bowler to do well. These are just my personal feelings, some people will think if a bowler does well then he will be a great bowler or if he does badly he will be bad a bowler, i say you will only find out a bowler's true potential in 50 over and 5 day cricket.

true what you said, however, some bowlers are more aligned to certain types of the game. Look at Dale Steyn, great 5 day figures but is only now coming into his own on the one dayers. But, pro 20 is different and I enjoy watching Mbalati bowling in it.

To bad it was rained out

Thank fsck it was rained out (from my perspective as a Dolphins supporter) :D

And Dale Steyn has been a major asset in the the one day squad since his debut. He's been great at all forms of the game. Mbhalati deserves a nod soon I think...

If you look at the ratings Dale Steyn struggled a bit last year (compared to his test career) but recently he's been on fire! I agree with you Mbhalati.

I don't recall him ever struggling in the ODIs. But I'm going on memory and not stats...
