Great news for people using Starlink in South Africa and neighbouring countries

Starlink is expected to launch a ground station in Mozambique by the end of March, increasing the satellite broadband service's capacity and reducing latency across Southern Africa.

Like other satellite services, the SpaceX-operated Starlink requires ground stations to facilitate backhaul connectivity to Internet servers.

To think we used to do the nazi salute as a joke in the school corridors as kids in the 80s. Simpler time when people didn't take themselves so seriously.

Everywhere but here...
You would think that the cANCer, seeing those pics of the ground station setup, in Moz, would be hanging their heads in shame...
But, that's just a big fat nope :(

Icasa has also gazetted a new regulation that will require 30% black-only ownership from licencees.
Elon must not cave in on this and tell the ANC to 🖕🖕🖕

I am sure we will get the Chinese Space sail service first long before Starlink launches here.

How long before it explodes and falls from the sky like all his other kak tech?

Well what ever happens under the table. I am a big fan of cheap internet to feed my cheap ass obsession's. If Space Sail comes flying in here offering a semi reliable cheap as chips internet connection heck il sign up. I'm already so used to dodgy internet connection offered by Rain so it can only get better.

I might be missing it in the article, but the reduction in latency is only for local servers right?

Previously a signal would beam from you to the satellite, then a few more satellites until it reached a ground station in Nigeria, where it would be routed back via an undersea cable to South Africa.

Now it would bounce from you to the satellite, then down to the ground station 100 KM from our border, to the undersea cable and back to South Africa.

It won't make a difference for latency between say South Africa and Europe.

Do I understand that correctly?

another game changing technology that thanks to the ANC and its backwards policies we never going to get,

reminds me of those complexes with management who wont allow companies to put in fibre,
then wonder why nobody wants to live there anymore,

No, the latency is introduced by the satellite backhaul so it's a fixed component. Previously it would bounce off to Nigeria then to Europe through cable. Now it bounces off to Mozam then to Europe through cable. In all cases fibre is faster.
