For what reason would someone in Sandton want satellite internet other than bragging rights?

They have a myriad of fibre offerings to choose from that is much faster.

After 5+ years of waiting for FTTH, forking out for LTE and WISP service, the $99 pm is worth it for speeds up to and over 100Mbps and latencies sub 60ms. I have signed up. Yes I know the initial layout is steep, but not much more than the layout when using a WISP.

This is what this product is designed for so hopefully they can deliver...2022 just a bit to go still.

When 75% of the content we access is in Europe/US, it doesn't matter in the mid-term.
A lot of the sites we access are served at Cloudflare CDNs here in South Africa.
All Google services are served locally.
YouTube is served locally.
Reddit is served locally.
Facebook is served locally.
Netflix is served locally.

Every single one of the top 10 sites visited by South Africans, are served locally, except for Yahoo.
lmao, Yahoo.

This will fck with local players
How?

the monthly cost of $99
Means it's aimed squarely at those that already have access to FTTH/LTE/5G, you name it. All for a ****ton less money a month.

Sure, there will be those that will jump at this as they are in underserviced areas, and can afford it, but that will be a tiny group.

And people living in the middle of nowhere with little to no cell cover and no other infrastructure to speak of..?
Like I said, a handful. It's not like there are masses in the rural areas that can afford this. Like Phuthaditjhaba. Would seem like the perfect environment, except 99.9% of the people live on less than $99 a month.

I will grab it as long as it's guaranteed to stay up during loadshedding or a total grid collapse.
Technically, the whole of Africa could be without power, the signal will pass via the laser communications across the satellites to the next available ground node. You just need to have solar / battery backup for your house.

I thought satellite internet services are aimed at precisely the poeple that have zero alternative? Why would you install a satellite service if you have FTTH or FTTB or LTE ?
