Starlink warns South African users that roaming will stop working - unless they get Icasa approval

This is great news. Starlink does not belong in South Africa and shouldn’t be used here. I am starting to like this Musk guy, he understands that rules are rules and they need to be enforced.
Why do you dislike famous white South Africans so much? :(

I'm going to activate mine in Lesotho in Q4 to make it easier, but in the mean time I'm sending it to someone in Eswatini or Zambia every 2 months to turn on that side for me. A pain, but my alternative is to move. I certainly can't rely on the Voda LTE tower that is down so often.

Anyone know of anyone receiving this email outside of Africa? All I can see online is from users throughout African countries.

Yeah they dont use the term suspended but "your service being restricted" to only their portal is the same as suspending service? You can't do anything with it.
Why did you add "to only their portal"?
It's not yet end of the month. Wait and see. You know as much as I do.
You're right its prob more of a general warning, but they do say this about the roaming...

"Additionally, the “Mobile – Regional” plans are intended for temporary travel and transit, not for permanent use in a location. If you have been using a "Mobile - Regional" plan for more than two months outside of the country in which you ordered Starlink, you must either see Support FAQs to change your account country or return to the country in which your service was ordered. Otherwise, your service will be restricted."

That last piece is vague. How long must you return to the country in which it was ordered?
They don't care IMO. Anyway. Let's see.

Ceres, South Africa. You?
Also South Africa.. What I was asking is if anyone outside of Africa has received that email.. When looking online it appears limited to African countries. Maybe Starlink will only be enforcing the policy in Africa for some reason.

Must be all the bandwidth they're using.

As outlined in our Terms of Service, the availability of our Mobile Service Plans is contingent upon various factors, including regulatory approvals. If you are operating your Starlink Kit in an area other than areas designated as "Available" on the Starlink Availability Map, we would like to remind you that this is in violation of the Starlink Terms and starting April 30th, 2024, you will be unable to connect to the internet except to access your Starlink account where you can make updates to your account. This restriction does not apply in areas designated as "Available" on the Starlink Availability Map.

Is some wiggle room in there to do a transfer but depends what they enforce in regards the 1st paragraph.
Also the problem of needing to be 90 days before you can transfer again

Ah well, it was a amazing to have firstworld internet out on the farm for 7 months.

Back to the 3rd world in May:rolleyes:
Sigh:)

Can't wait to see when all the government departments using it start complaining.

Which government departments are using it?

Assuming that internet connectivity requirement is > cost, and cost is not major factor your life, I suppose that you could buy two units and rotate them between countries on a monthly schedule

Bit expensive but hey ho, needs must
