I like it.

I'll help you with the website (front end) and marketing for free.

no marketing or website required but thanks for the offer, I'll nevertheless keep it in mind.

I'll gladly share the details of my operation with everyone once I have the project up and running, the aim is to have it replicated everywhere.

There are many a model that can be used for this. I have an idea as well, but at the end of the day, time isn't something I have.

fortunately I have tons of time, but what I've also noticed is that people are quite eager to commit effort and resources once they see my "vision".

surprisingly the ISP was the first to be onboard

I haven't done the nitty gritty details as yet, but the broad outline is as follows, find 50 people to contract to a 24 month contract at R2000 initial set cost and R350pm

This will cover the cost of a 100mbps 10:1 line which then needs to be distributed to these people. The trick is obviously reliable distribution. A surplus of around R5000pm will be created which can then be pumped back into the area via CCTV cameras or better internet or whatever benefits the users as a group.

Distribution (sounds very expensive) sounds like neotel and even they failed dead in the water.

Distribution relies on a number of factors. WISP'S have the idea. They can't however keep going on the cheap. Eventually they have to replace the equipment to make sure the quality of the service is maintained.

It is that easy. You need a lisence for that. You will eventually need more expensive Back haul equipment that runs in the licensed frequencies. Your AP'S will need to be sectors. Your customers need CPE. Then those customers need to be maintained.

its all solveable problems though
Definitely. And I am looking at this. (I'm saving money on the side)

I want to start a wisp for Tygerwaterfront and tygerfalls small area 1000s of flats in this radius and I know most of the body corporates here and collective investors who own these tower of buildings I have permission to put up the wireless hardware on the roofs of these 6 story buildings if I wanted too. So that side is covered.

It's just licensing and equipment costs. Then I need to hire 2 installers and 1 more support technician as I will also be doing the various roles.

(all pipe dreams, but I am sort of working on it. I did the market research survey each flat and I have 500 signatures of people willing to sign up for a R200 a month package with 100Gb data of that means they dont have to deal with telkom.)

If you are interested in Wireless Networks, look at CTWUG. It doesn't offer internet access, but it offers some interesting things to learn.
I should check it out actually, I almost joined few years back could not get permission for the hardware back then.

A mybb member has started an ISP before (two actually if you can't the "fibre" WISP one).

The successful one had significant skills and contacts on their side though. Plus superior spelling skills. /runs

It's mostly just fibre now :p

And one is a licensed ISP, the other one is just a reseller ;)
