5 years!!! Everything is always in 5 years. By that time there won't be anyone left here.

Whats wrong with tomorrow!!!

They're building undersea links, that takes a lot of time.

You could also read the article:

"Public Enterprises Minister Alec Erwin told the Sunday Times last week that the new state-owned enterprise, Broadband Infraco, would market bulk broadband to value- added network providers, known as VANS, at 35 percent of Telkom’s 2006 cost.

Yesterday, Public Enterprises director-general Portia Molefe went further, saying the cost would come down in steps to five percent of Telkom’s price by 2011 and would stay there."

The 5% is the long term plan, they're planning to start (whenever that is :() at 35% of Telkoms cost, which sounds great.

Now why can't we just speed things up and get both Infraco and Seacom started, I really think this is the most positive news we've ever had, a little more enthusiam? :p

Telkom come lately - Dragonlogos ~ you know they say talk is cheap, and what you sow, so shall you reap - the best things in life are free, but there's nothing worse than a monopoly

I should stop reading MyADSL comments, No surprise everytime

But the question I beg to ask, DO you blame the people of South Africa for their negativism and lack of enthusiasm after the last few years of promises and let downs? Not to mention the unscrupulous theft of hard earned money by the telecommunications industries, allowed by government. Now they say they will reduce costs to 35% - 5% of current costs. That is only a bold agreement that we are cheated and defrauded by TELKOM, MTN, Mweb, DSTV and any other data service company in this country, Albeit only due to Telkom. They all should have stood up against this mass legal fraud.

Haha, well it was irritating in this case. I've been happily reading all of these Seacom/Infraco articles thinking it will finally happen, except for all the delays of course. :/

But if this goes through, and that should happen with either Seacom/Neotel, Nepad or Infraco, then it looks like we'll finally get good internet. A real international connection(s) and a few more national players is all we need.. and it's happening. Dunno it sounds like good times to me.

Aah but re: No, I suppose not, but we don't let anything get our hopes up do we... it's only good, we'll be surprised when something good actually happens.

The bottom line is that its all "in the pipeline" (pun intended) so we just have to sit and wait until it happens, or doesnt happen. At this stage, I dont get happy about anything anymore, I'm not positive or negative about these developments (if they are) because it always takes another 4-5 years for something to happen. Neotel was supposed to be here 4 years ago, they are only here now, and will only make a difference in 4 years time. Bottom line, cough up now, cough up tomorrow, and maybe you'll "Touch Tomorrow"

The only reason they're making this promise is to get their license.

Once that's achieved, their tune will change.

Well they're touching tomorrow today but that's still bad because today we actually use yesterdays technology so basically we're going nowhere.

They've already had five years! Its the same problem throughout the country: lack of capacity planning for the future. Its the same reason Eskom has for putting Cape Town in the dark every other week (or Bedforview, for that matter). The same reason I sit on N1 for 2 hours everyday courtesy of the JRA.

That is why you're in charge! But once you start putting out fires its too late, there should have been plans in place years ago to prevent them from breaking out! If you can't do your job, you should be fired!

Let them eat cake... in five years... maybe.

Todays lesson is Black Holes:
A black hole is a region of space whose gravitational field is so powerful that nothing can escape it once it has fallen past a certain point, called the event horizon.
Wikipedia

This daily display gives no hope for the future (nevermind 5 years.)

Im sure they mean something else :p

Like we all know Telkom was something like 7000 times more expensive than other countries. That makes Telkom 700000% more expensive and applying some weird funky maths that makes 95% off = 699905% more expensive than other countries. Not such a big drop is it :D (100% of 1 = 1 thrfor 1000% of 1 = 10 and 100000% of 1 = 1000)

Im telling you this is how they think and add :p and who's to call them liars eh?! They will twist and change the words in future no doubt.

If I was El Presidente, they would've all been against a wall with blindfolds on soiling themselves years ago already.
Government sanctioned extortion, nothing less than that.
