Milk + Chlorine = Problem Solved

At this rate, in 5 years time they wont need the bandwidth because everyone would have left. I think we need a new poll: Best Countries to Immigrate to

Bloody hell, IBIWISI!.

So... Portia Molefe says the price will be 5% of what telkom charges... (and she promises......!!!!!... big mistake!!!!!) so....... if telkom desides to pull the carrot from their beeehind, and slash prices to... lets pretend here... R50 for uncapped super damn fast best in the world- internet (yea i know, will never happen!), They will charge 5% of that cost? - yea right...

Its was suppose to be end of Jan 2007, then April 2007 and now Nov 2007 before other ISP's have access to the SAT3 cable at reduced pricing.

Yes talk, talk any doers out their. Nobodies listening anyway.
Let me stick my head in the sand and wait another 3 months to
see if anything will happen with the SAT3 cable.

Gotta love it when politicians promise things in X years. By that time the politician is not even in office anymore.

Yawn, did anyone say anything about the SAT 3 cable? Was it really scheduled that April 2007 SAT 3 would be open at reduced prices? haha...

btw what's clever about talking about todays prices for the 5%? They couldn't give you a figure if it was based on whatever Telkom might be charging in 5 years.

So much crying wolf over the years that when thng actually start to happen no-one believes it. I don't care if its all talk, I'll back any plan that allows me to buy bandwidth at 5% of the current cost. Bring it on.

95% by 2011.

They will drop the prices by 95%

Hmm, I take it they also promised to build 2,000,000 houses etc. etc. etc.

I will believe it if and when I see it...

Assuming that Infraco is run as an efficient, world class organisation, with absolutely no delays for inefficiency of any kind, it might be possible to commission the SA to Brazil cable segment, that is being talked about, by November or December 2010. Then, the govt is saying that they want to drop Infraco's prices to 5% of Telkom's current level by 2011?
While a cable from SA to Brazil would be nice, the main routes required are from SA to Europe and the USA.
Unfortunately, it looks, currently, like Seacom is the only cable system which has any hope of being commissioned before the 2010 World Cup. What makes things more problematic is that there is talk that there are problems with some repeaters on SAT3, which means that SAT3 may not be able to reach its design capacity - it would be interesting to see whether the SAT3 consortium will confirm or deny this.

With respect to the time required to land a cable, it is important to consider the fact that all the cable laying companies (like Tyco and Alcatel) are currently operating at full capacity. Anybody who wants a new cable system at the moment has to get into a queue. Fortunately for Seacom, they have already secured a contract with Tyco to lay their cable. There has been no indication provided that either Nepad or Infraco have taken any steps to secure a supply contract for a cable.

That is why they want to create a little law to force 51% SA ownership.... Like we all know that means BEE, which will line the pockets of a few...

Guess whose pockets! (No prices for getting it right!)
