<Q>Price cuts announced earlier this month by Telkom and its mobile unit, Vodacom, were not enough...</Q>

Well - thats the first time the 2 have been mentioned together like that.
Methinks that the Teklom/Voda partnership is beginning to flex it's muscle.
/me sits back and waits - maybee the next massive price decrease will save me another 5c on my bills. Yipeeeee.

<Q>...were not enough and the government might use tighter regulations or issue new licences to drive down costs, communications minister Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri added.</Q>

I like the way the word might is thrown into that sentence. I mean, the statement now reads like a mafiosa greeting card:
Welcome to the neighbourhood, we hope you can find the path to a fabulous and safe life in our neighbourhood. PS. Our account details are ...

<Q>Matsepe-Casaburri would use policy directives to explain the government's plans to control Telkom's rates for new operators, Shope-Mafole said. "The minister has indicated that she would like to issue the policy directives by the end of the year."</Q>

What ? The end of the year ? Are you mad ?
This statement is proof that there is not going to be any SNO competition before next year.

How SLOW can you go ?

Well the dumb bitch could hardly say she thinks we should all just buck up and pay the cost could she? It does seem to be a bit of a stalling tactic though, ICASA had said by the beginning of September they'd have a proposal in place and now she's saying they hope to have policy directives by the end of the year. What while we let Telkom rip us a new one with their new pricing structure we've heard rumours about?

<Q>"We will put in place an environment that is fair to companies yet meets the government's needs of providing affordable services to all the country's citizens," said Shope-Mafole.</Q>

Bwhahahahahahaha - All the country's citizens ?
Oh my word - what utter crap.
I believe this statement is a blatent mistruth that is nothing but a marketing ploy.
I'll come back to this statement next year and lest see what they've done...

Shope-Mafole - please define :
- Environment = ?????.
- Fair to Compaines = ?????.
- Governments Needs = ?????.
- Affordable Services = ?????.
- All the country's citizens = ?????.

I'd bet the oficcial definition of these things are not even close to what we think they should be.

Education!

I believe education and technology is the key to a prosperous future in south africa.

I just wish these people like Ivy and even Steve White would go to university to get educated about technology!

Our government is a bunch of monkeys and they fill the key positions with their brother and sister and aunt and uncle monkey!

You'd think telkom is greedy, but I think thats giving them too much credit. They are too stupid to be greedy.

somebody save us!
