It just took me 20min on the phone, repeating "stop trying to convince me otherwise, just cancel my cover on xxx date". The lady flatly refused to confirm that it'll be canceled. I had to lose my temper and ask to speak to a manager after 18min of getting more and more aggravated before she eventually serviced my request.

This follows them telling me 2 weeks ago that I cannot cancel it that early and that they will phone me back to confirm cancellation the next week. Obviously they didn't call back.

As a last ditch effort the sales person said I will forego my Outbonus if I cancel at the end of September. My Outbonus is due on the 7th of September. This is a flat out lie. What dodgy snakes. Will never make use of them again.

And they are not cheap either.

The reason why I left they hiked my premiums again. I've never claimed from my insurance.

For some reason they weren't very interested to lower it, until I sent through the request to cancel. All of a sudden they could work magic. But it was too late. I already confirmed with the other provider that I will be moving over. But now they've lost a customer for life being such hard asses about canceling.

say nothing.
call 30 sept and cancel with immediate effect.

insurance is normally prepaid.
even if you cancel on the 15th they have to refund you the other half. I think my money came back end of the next month. I canceled with less than 10 days to month end.

So, if you are an Outurance customer and want your premiums lowered, just send through a request to stop your cover :)

In future I will take this advice.

I cancelled with Miway a few days ago and it was painless. They asked what my premiums were going to be and they didn't even try to match it or persuade me to stay.
Maybe because I still have household and 1 trailer insured with them but I took off 2 cars without any fuss.

Go through the exercise on a yearly basis and you'll see how affordable insurance really can be.

Have been with Outsurance for a few years now and have never claimed, yet they also try to push up the premium without any justification. After some criticizing of the service and attitude and threats of cancelling the service with whichever manager I can get a hold of (normal staff tend not to be able to do anything, so first thing is to get them on the line asap), they give me a "discount", which effectively nullifies the premium increase and in some cases I even get to score.

Been doing this year-on-year and as soon as they decline to assist, I'll take my business elsewhere.

Some people have tried doing this with other providers with lesser success.

Its very simple.

Ask if the phone call is recorded... if they response is Affirmative, then just state, I am officially cancelling my policy X with your company as of X date.... They don't have to confirm anything.. if the agent tries to give you the run around, you just tell her the phone call is recorded you have made your request and according to the CPA it HAS to be processed by her... the second time she gives you the run around, the response is "put me through to a manager immediately as I wish to lay an official complaint regarding your conduct".

Yeah whenever insurance tries to put your premium up, always argue with them, and move insurers if you have to. They will try every year, and most people don't argue, so they pay the increase. Think about it - your car is decreasing in value faster than inflation - why should you pay more?

Miway was far worse when it came to cancelling. But yeah, outsurance is bad. They got me a summons because of their laziness.

Just go to IEMAS.

I think they are all fairly dodgy. Understandably so. If you deal with tons of fraudulent claims you treat everyone like a criminal.
But for me it's a huge grudge purchase. I pay ~R2K a month and have never claimed in 10 years of driving.

2k for 1 vehicle?
what is the insured value of said vehicle?

Stay away from OUTSurance? Heck I thought this was common knowledge?

Seriously I would have worked via a Broker and have him/her get OUTSurance cancelled.

I've always hated Outsurance for the following reasons:

1. Quoting more for insurance that for my car payment
2. Making false claims about being able to save you money blah blah
3. Ridiculously high prices - they were charging my wife about R300 too much, when I told her to challenge them, this is how much her premium fell by.
4. F**king annoying ads.

Call in every 6 months.
Immediately ask for retentions.
So far they remain the cheapest for my profile. Worth the time for me.

Oh, and if you cancel outsurance, be prepared to be showered with calls from other random insurance companies and "debt consolidators"... Outsurance sells your contact info to anybody they can find after you cancel.
