2k for 1 vehicle?
what is the insured value of said vehicle?

2 Vehicles - 2010 Tiguan, 2011 Forester and building insurance.
Tiguan is driven by my wife (30, never claimed), Forester by my dad (60, never in an accident).

I drive my Dads RunX which he insured also at Outsurance at something like R350. I bought him the Forester in exchange for his old car, that's why it's a bit mixed up.

Moving to budget they took it to ~R1.7K for the 3 cars and building insurance. RunX is only 3rd party.
Still feel like I'm paying too much, but this is the best deal I got.

If I don't claim for another ten years, and assuming my premiums remain static (wishful thinking); also not including interest, I will pay R1700 *12 months * 10 years = R204 000

R204 000 for nothing. But as Murphy has it, if I cancel this tomorrow my wife will crash into my dads car :)

I use Indequity insurance (for professionals). Previously used PPS (for professionals).

After seeing what real service is, I will never use a commercial front tier insurance company again.

Talk to a decent broker man... you're still paying too much.

These "direct" insurance companies are not cheaper. Get in touch with Alexander Forbes.

And they hate to pay out claims as well.

Generally not too bad paying out for their own clients...but god forbid you have a bumper bash with one of their clients you will struggle forever and a day.

Only problem claiming from them is their terrible insistence on "approved vendors" which are all utterly ****.

So, if you are an Outurance customer and want your premiums lowered, just send through a request to stop your cover :)

I follow that principle on a yearly basis with every insurance company I've ever dealt with, but you are quite right it worked like magic at Outsurance.

hmm

seems like a lot (R350) for not covering you, only other party.
Shop around and look at brokers.

For me Santam was cheaper, and got better cover than outsurance. (offered me insurance for 2 vehicles and home contents insurance for less than outsurance was prepared to charge to insure the more expensive vehicle)

yip. my insurance was dropped by nearly R800 per month. R800 x 12 far exceeds the outbonus I missed out on....

Looked. Saving R784.63 per month :)

That was for full insurance, I changed it to 3rd party only at budget for something like R70. It's worth so little, in the off chance that I do write it off c'est la vie.

I am getting an outbonus in Sept of R3000, for not claiming for 3 years. If you look on the amount spent, this outbonus ploy is a joke. Give it to them, it's a smart marketing trick.

I also had a fun time when I cancelled my Outsurance premiums.

I realise that the retentions people are just doing their jobs - but don't push me to stay with you when you can already here that I am in no mood to do so.

They were cheaper than Sanlam.....and no excess :)

(Haven't tested their claims process yet).

I used Hippo to get comparative quotes. The cheapest was R500 more p/m than I am paying currently with IEMAS on just my one car.

Hippo is such a wonderful concept, All the quotes ultimately come from a small group of companies that work together, and are possibly owned or underwritten by A&G

I love these threads :D

After phoning 5 or 6 insurance companies, and I think 5 brokers now, Outsurance is still the cheapest for me by 10% (one other company quoted me 70% higher and wouldnt drop a cent). My excesses are usually lower too
I've also claimed twice, premiums didnt go up and both claims processed within 3 days (money in my account). It's all about finding the company who's risk profile places you lowest and who's service you can live with.

Might have to give these guys a call in a few weeks time... looking to move insurance companies.

PPS is obviously a much larger institution than Indequity, so some might take comfort in that. I deal with one person at Indequity for all my needs (adding various specialised risk items like my mtb bike, camera and such) instead of some faceless, nameless void. No increases for my claims.

When I claimed the last time, the panel shop who Indequity referred me to removed all the scratches from my mags, minor body work scratches etc for free. Didn't even claim from Indequity. Just a great bunch of people, and I was blown away.
