Leaving was the easiest choice, I suppose being single has perks. Income is better, lifestyle for me is better. Destinations i like are closer, so many offerings that suit me just aren't available in SA.

Those that stay should make hay while they can and enjoy it.

So the grass is not greener on the other side and all other countries have the same extent of problems as SA. I wonder why so many have left for greener pastures if the pastures is not any greener than here? Please expalin this exodus when there is no reason for it. Everyone I have spoken to are very glad they left, and will never come back.

Bit of a self promotion here, but refer to post #475

Why don't you just block everyone that disagrees with you?

It'll sure save us the trouble of reading your racial rhetoric in the hope that you've seen the light for what it is?
He's be like the loneliest whale in the world that calls at a different frequency. Except here he'd be spouting his nonsense with nobody to take him up on things. He enjoys that until he's pushed in a corner and then makes some vague attempt to justify his stance.

Come to think of it, that's not a bad idea...block everyone (when you can get it right!)...

I think people are taking their chance when they can because for many without second passports, it can take years to get into another country. Life might be better here now, but it certainly won't be once the country defaults, we have 12 hours a day without power, and they take away your pension.

I'm 42 and still staying in SA, but have almost no assets here, and still probably earn + save more than I could overseas. I do have a second passport, so when (not if) the sht hits the fan, I can leave immediately. If I didn't have that luxury, I'd have been making plans to get out a long time ago.

Is an "urge" not like a sexual need? What sexual things does Ramapusha have in mind?

I being a proud white male, having accepted a position in Prague, Czech Republic has the world at his feet.

Did a stint at a hotel in Prague in 2005; I absolutely loved it.

Question: Isn't the language barrier a problem? How's your Czech?

My Czech is fair, job provides a PA who is the translator and teacher to bring me up to par anyway, which is great.

I'm not a young white person, not old either. sort of on the middle side.

I've thought about this a lot, and I have the ability to work and live in Europe without the need for visas etc. However, for me it has come down to choosing what to give up vs what you gain. Anyone thinking the grass will be and remain greener on the other side is unfortunately in for a surprise.

Every country has its problems and South Africa has a long list of them. However as a country to live in I love it in South Africa and I firmly believe it has a lot of value to still add to the world. When I'm with friends, business people and so forth racism never is an issue and i've never felt "unwelcome" by a black South African in that context and I see us all as equals.

I believe the problem stems more towards some political parties and figures who rally up those with racist views (and this can happen both ways) who spread nonsense and create FUD.
I see my friend's children play with eachother whether they're white, indian, black - and I know they will grow up without color in their minds. Unless we put it there.

So what i mean is, I don't judge those who want to leave, and I don't judge those who want to stay. For me i'm happy to remain in South Africa and i'm willing to accept the caveats that come with it. If one day I don't accept them anymore i'll trade them for other caveats in another country and move there.
Lovely sentiment there.

Thing is that in other countries you can own grass.

Over here you're not even allowed to water your grass anymore, because our gauvamint did fokol planning as far as new dams goes.
Plus with EWC on the way, your remaining grass will legally be taken away from you.

And in the mean time here is a new tax for you to pay or we will cut off your water, when we are able to give you water.

Have you been applying to the Green-Card/Diversity Lottery? If not, you may as well try.
I did long ago. sort of stopped because i've heard it can be a two-edged sword.

Some people got approved but weren't ready to move - i think they give you 2 years or something. Then found out they were however tax liable in the US from the start of the green card and were in trouble for not submitting returns etc. I don't know if thats just rumours or not though.

Either way, I may try again now that the new administration will be more open to foreigners.

There are people who've left the USA and said they'll never come back, there's people who've left the UK and said they'll never go back. Its all relative, and in the end, up to each person i guess.

I have never heard of or spoken to anyone who fled USA or UK and said they will never go back. You are invering that UK and USA problems are equal to SA problems, and that the fleeing out of SA is the same as people fleeing UK and USA.

They exist, friends dad hates the uk with every fibre in his being, him & the wife were born there. They've also lived in oz, their kids moved to nz a few years back and they went over for a long stay (retired) to check it out with the aim of joining the children & grandkids (which would be easy as they're oz citizens), old guy said notta fsck he's gonna spend his last years in sa as nz is not for him. These are well-off people with za, oz, uk & irish citizenship that can pick where they wanna live. That said they're 'glad' their children left for their future.

I also know a few europeans that wont go back (one has royal blood nogals, lol).

Point is if things get real bad you'll be fine with europe.
I passed up a sponsored usa move in '98, idiot.

A sponsored USA move is something I'd never pass on (even though I'm honestly not all that keen on permanently living in the states, but just for the experience on the CV it would be immensely beneficial)...

So can I call you an idiot as well? :D
