They exist, friends dad hates the uk with every fibre in his being, him & the wife were born there. They've also lived in oz, their kids moved to nz a few years back and they went over for a long stay (retired) to check it out with the aim of joining the children & grandkids (which would be easy as they're oz citizens), old guy said notta fsck he's gonna spend his last years in sa as nz is not for him. These are well-off people with za, oz, uk & irish citizenship that can pick where they wanna live. That said they're 'glad' their children left for their future.

I also know a few europeans that wont go back (one has royal blood nogals, lol).

I think the 'well-off' is the give away here. They know if things go south they can leave immediately. A luxury most of us will never have.

I'm heading back to SA due to the pandemic. But it is always a good idea to have a backup plan for when the ANC goes full ZANU on the country.

Just thought I'd share some information to help those seeking to leave the country from the posts I read in this thread.

On that note, keep in mind that the grass isn't always greener on the other side. The salaries are higher, but so is the cost of everything else. Property is especially ludicrously priced. But if you don't mind living and renting a tiny studio apartment a few km's from city center then it's a pretty good life.

I have never heard of or spoken to anyone who fled USA or UK and said they will never go back. You are invering that UK and USA problems are equal to SA problems, and that the fleeing out of SA is the same as people fleeing UK and USA.

You have to get out more. I have friends from the US/UK and Netherlands who moved here to SA and swear they will never return. My one friend from the US renounced his US citizenship (mostly for tax reasons though) and swore he would never set foot on US soil again. The guy from the UK is married to a South African who has hinted about maybe one day moving to the UK for their kid's education and he keeps shooting that idea down. The couple from the Netherlands live a few houses away and they do make occasional trips back there for family visits, but they also say they will never move back there permanently. Now I'm not saying that the problems there are anything like ours, but that was straight from them.

I know a couple who moved to South Africa for mining work from Switzerland and Austria.

They've lived here for years and eventually retired here. They agree that they'll never return to Switzerland as it's impossible to live the lifestyle they're living in South Africa. Property prices and weather are too much to handle all year round.

Now they run a small steel supply and maintenance shop to keep the retirement cash flowing in.

Yeah well I think its been stated that we should not be comparing people in SA with no easy option to go with people who can go easily. All the foreigners that I know moved back to their homeland already. It also depends on how much money you have.
