They won't though, they're old and the old guy wants to live out his last few years & die here. The wife will then move to be with the kids.
Oh, SNAP!

My aunt feels the same, my uncle dead-set against moving. They actually have a wealth of choices as their 4 kids have already gained permanent residency overseas - from eldest to youngest:
Auckland, NZ;
Manchester, UK;
Royan, France (the one son has a micro-brewery there);
Austin, Texas.

You do know that you will not get any land or property for free, right? Once expropriation starts, as with Zim, politicians, their family, friends and cronies will get the best for free. You and those who are not connected will unfortunately need to pay rent on a 5, 10 or 20 year lease. This is how things work. You will never own land.
That's your twisted fantasy, I am connected.

But we are told we are already in Apartheid daily on MyBB. Anyway there's great nostalgia about Apartheid here so actually you guys will have great fun.
I really mean "white apartheid", it will bring you back before 1990.

happy?

don't be nonsense to believe "apartheid will never come back", if white apartheid is the best for south africans, why not?

PS: international communities will not do anything about apartheid anymore, and the rest of african countries will be glad to have a white apartheid government to rule south africa forever.

It makes sense in a way.

Parents are the same. Their friend circle is in SA, they're doing reasonably well financially.

Can totally see how missioning to a new country and starting from fresh at 65+ has no appeal regardless of a country's circumstances

Yeah, I think if the kids moved to eastern australia, gold coast area he might have been a bit more inclined but probably still would not have moved. NZ he just found to be backwards...

haha not sure about backward - friends reported it's just pretty slow/peaceful/nothing happens. No idea never been.

I do know parents while determined to stay aren't super pleased about sibling opting to stay in SA though despite ability to bounce.

Ill leave this here here as a possible future for Ex once his leaders had to grovel to the Chinese for loans to keep the country running.

The grass being greener on the other side is a matter of perspective. If you can live with your new problems then sure, grass is definitely greener.

I mean, you don't "fear for your life" when you walk outside and public transport is great, but you do lock up that bicycle of yours real nice and tight with locks almost as expensive as the bike itself else it will be liberated.

*heats coffee*

You do live a healthier lifestyle because paying R400 at McD for two people is bad for your health.

"You have to stop thinking in Rands and start thinking in Euros." Alright, paying €10 for a horse meat burger and shredded potatoes is bad for my health.

There's still nothing on TV but at least it is in a foreign language so that's new, and you do have Apple One and YouTube Premium to entertain yourself but it does cost almost double and I'm not feeling twice as entertained.

Opened a bank account, still waiting for details to arrive by post.

Hopefully with our dual income we'll qualify for a mortgage so that we can buy a semi-decent house and not a shoebox.

That Wilders ****er better not push us out of the EU

Saw the sun twice this week! Next week we'll reach double digits on the thermostat so summer is finally here!

*heats cold coffee*

Went to the garbage bin outside but it was full so brought the smelly bags back inside, don't feel like paying a €95 fine (per bag?) for it.

Oh, electricity and water works and there is a constant supply. I can tell by the radiators keeping the house warm. We pay a fixed amount per month and will sort out the difference at the end of the year - no idea which way it is going to go but #yolo

Right, and horse meat is ****ing expensive. I thought boerewors at €11/kg was excessive :mad:

It's also possible that after a 5-10 years, you're making €300k+ a year, and don't really have to worry about any of the above. Not saying it's common of course, but it's a path that's relatively open to employees of the developer variety.
