Perhaps Telkom is doing the following to increase our Internet speeds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lG5cEik2ABY
I was actually quite impressed that he used proper electromagnetic equation there to prove his theory that you can double your Internet speed.

LOL

I don't really know what else to do. Escalate to ICASA I guess.

4 Mbps line in Onder-Papegaaiberg. Line stats are fine and line syncs at 4Mbps no problem.

However, performance has been worse than a 1 Mbps line for months, although not all the time, goes back to 3.6Mbps every now and again, but getting worse with time. Classic congestion symptoms.

I am also in Onderpapegaaiberg and my problems also started towards the end of last year. Before that I was very satisfied with the ADSL performance in the area. By the looks of it we have established that the exchange is indeed congested?

I actually downgraded my line from a 4Mbps to a 1Mbps due to the terrible latency. My line did however run at full speed and the only problem I experienced was extremely high latency. I've noticed that the last month or so things are a bit better. Latency is fine during the day but come 20h00 / 20h30 and you're better off not gaming as it goes through the roof.

I have also had a technician over and logged a number of faults but Telkom just says they only guarantee latency "below 300ms".

So yeah, if you guys have an idea of what to do or where to complain / log faults let me know as I can't take this anymore.

My ISP (WebAfrica) advised me this week that Telkom closed the last ticket logged for my line. Apparently problem is resolved...
Don't know what they did.
So far so good, but will have to see what happens this week when all the students are back again.

8 O'clock and all is well...

My line (4Mbps) has been running fine since I spoke to my ISP on Wednesday.

Yes, Telkom have closed my tickets before as well with no change.
However this was a ticket logged by my ISP on my behalf (I rent the line via my ISP, not direct from Telkom).
This ticket was opened several months ago and only closed now.

I am hoping that my problems are at an end for now, but the big test will be this week when the students are back...

My line is directly with Telkom and they don't seem to have any intention of helping me. :)

Well, I just spoke to someone at Telkom, they are still investigating some "congestion" at an "edge router".

By the way, I recommend hammering @TelkomZA again and referring to this thread.

Well, they have been "investigating" this for 48 days now. That was the first time they told me about it.

Only 48 days???
It has been much longer than that!

Fortunately for me, my line seems to be connected beyond the "edge" of the problematic "router".
Although throughput declines during peak times, I have rarely seen the download speed for my 4 mbps line drop below 3 mbps since Telkom closed the last ticket. :)

Perhaps I should be grateful that our exchange still does not support 10mbps...

I'm very tempted to downgrade my connection to 1Mbps due to this :(

This morning at around 12:00 - 13:00 my ADSL line dropped the PPPoE connections and was unable to establish them again for a couple of minutes. The strange part was that the ADSL connection was 100%
