Mine has been all over the place at night and worse in the mornings for some reason. I'm talking to Telkom now, they've done a port reset but that hasn't done anything. I'm going to ask them directly about exchange issues or other localised problems.

Now it has hit a new low: 1000ms - 1500ms after midnight ! This latency is so high that I simply cannot work from home via a VPN...

I'm over this. I'm gonna Tweet tomorrow and implicate ICASA in the Tweet to @TelkomZA.

Just ran a speedtest and got the following results.

I'm on a 4mbps connection and I live pretty much next to PnP in town, pretty much right next to the exchange.

Also ran a tracert to google's public dns.

Code:
Tracing route to google-public-dns-a.google.com [8.8.8.8]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms home.gateway [192.168.1.254]
  2 1009 ms 1065 ms 1067 ms 41-132-42-1.dsl.mweb.co.za [41.132.42.1]
  3 * 1025 ms 1015 ms te1-1-0.511.cpt-ipc-1.mweb.co.za [196.28.178.202
]
  4 1126 ms 1094 ms 1006 ms 197-84-2-2.cpt.mweb.co.za [197.84.2.2]
  5 1018 ms 1015 ms 1177 ms tengige0-0-0-2.11.cpt-p-1.mweb.co.za [196.28.178

  6 1345 ms 1293 ms 1251 ms tengig0-0-0-0.vic-p-2.mweb.co.za [197.84.4.35]
  7 1178 ms 1119 ms * tengig0-7-0-0.vic-p-1.mweb.co.za [197.84.4.37]

  9 1041 ms 1132 ms 1087 ms 197-80-96-6.jhb.mweb.co.za [197.80.96.6]
 10 1067 ms 1064 ms 919 ms 66.249.95.8
 11 1091 ms 1180 ms 1280 ms 209.85.253.196
 12 1066 ms 1129 ms 1213 ms 209.85.240.28
 13 1264 ms 1267 ms 1153 ms 216.239.49.36
 14 * * * Request timed out.
 15 * 1130 ms 1217 ms google-public-dns-a.google.com [8.8.8.8]

Trace complete.

Line is syncing at 4096000 down and 512000 up.
SNR Margin of 19.0 dB down 13 dB up and Line Attenuation of 19.5 dB down and 8.5 dB up.

The connection was actually relatively fine for the majority of the weekend and then started going to s*** again around Sunday evening. This has been going on for almost 2 months now, getting relatively sick of it. Telkom can't seem to figure out whats wrong.

I have reported a fault but can't track it because the Telkom website is still down for maintenance since sometime on Sunday...

I don't know about you guys, but I get this feeling that every time someone complains about crap performance their line gets prioritized or something, to the disadvantage of everyone else. All the while you guys were having issues, I had none, but since this weekend I've been experiencing issues reminiscent of a congested exchange. This is my speedtest as of this morning.

Attenuation (dB): 21.0 10.5
Output Power (dBm): 6.9 7.6
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 7840 980

I'm in Akkerhof across the road from PnP. Contemplating a move to Kleinwelgevonden, because our offices are there and the connection there is fine.

@Zewp:
I'm in Suidwal Street, Krigeville, which is inbetween Paul Roos and Bloemhof.

Here are my stats:
Code:
Mode: G.DMT
Type: Fast
Line Coding: Trellis On
Status: No Defect
Link Power State: L0
  				DS	Upstream
SNR Margin (dB): 30.1 13.0
Attenuation (dB): 20.0 10.0
Output Power (dBm): 8.1 5.9
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 10752 1008
Rate (Kbps): 2048 512

I'm not at my flat at this moment, so I cannot run a speedtest.net test, however here is how my connection looked the past 7 days:
networkstatspast7days.png

* Latency is indicated by blue filled in region, and I have a 2Mbps line, limited (by myself for prioritizing purposes) to 195KB/s.

Test conducted on 5/28/2013 1:45:45 PM (Local)

Download Speed: 180 kbps (22.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 103 kbps (12.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 892 ms

This is a local speedtest. I cannot properly open email and download work-related PDF's with this, let alone play anything online this evening (which happens to be practice for the Do Gaming league...).

Hey Telkom is on the case and trying to fix the problem. :D
It's not an isolated incident.

Have they actually admitted to knowing about the issues that people are having? Because for the past two months Telkom peeps have been telling me that they have no clue about what is going on and that they don't know of anyone else with the issue.

I feel your pain. I have the option to work from home when working on the same project for several days, so now I'm forced to brave the crappy weather and actually go to the office. And even worse, I haven't been able to play any online games properly for the last 2 months. This is messing up my online life...

Hey guys. Well, my internet is basically unuseable.
It has taken me about 20 minutes to make this simple forum post...

I live in La Colline, close to the primary school.

Lets hope the tweet lights a fire under someone's behind...

Yeah, I find this state of my ADSL highly frustrating, because I need to do work (remote desktop to office + Coursera marking) and it is just one epic fail.
3 more days and then its the next flat owner's problem and hopefully I won't have this issue at my next place...

Well... My connection seems fine this morning.

But it's happened before where it's fine for half a day or even a whole day :wtf: and then goes right back to s*** again.
