It looks like the pee guy was suspended from res and attending class, is this correct? The alleged rapist was only suspended from res according to articles, so free to attend class.

That's my point... the rape case it looks like they will only handle once the criminal case is concluded but the pee story they can't get to fast enough and screw the associated criminal case.

Pee guy needs to insist on legal counsel else they gonna burn him at the stake.

Interesting Newzroom interview here,

Stellenbosch University says disciplinary procedure into urination incident must be conclusive

Stellenbosch University (SU) says that although it has expedited the investigation into Theuns du Toit and the urination incident, it must still follow proper processes.

Du Toit was suspended on Monday following a video taken by fellow student Babalo Ndwayana early on Sunday morning at Huis Marais student residence.

...

But the impatience over what will happen to Du Toit has led Vice-Chancellor Wim de Villiers to urge patience to ensure a solid outcome.

University spokesperson Martin Viljoen explained the university's processes with regard to complaints:

- Unfair discrimination, harassment, sexual harassment, gender-based violence and victimisation are reported to the Equality Unit first for preliminary investigation. The process is guided by the Policy on Unfair Discrimination and Harassment.

- The policy stipulates that the matter should be investigated promptly, and each case is investigated on its own merits. This will include inviting everyone involved to provide information and statements where applicable.

- The Equality Unit considers the facts and makes recommendations on whether a formal student disciplinary process should be followed (applicable to student misconduct) and/or be referred to human resources (applicable to staff misconduct) for further investigation and the appropriate action to be taken.

- Key principles are confidentiality, procedural fairness to all parties and timeous processes.

- In discriminatory complaints, Student Discipline will receive a report from the Equality Unit recommending a disciplinary investigation.

- When the student discipline investigation is completed, and it is found that there are sufficient grounds to charge a student for misconduct, the implicated student will be presented with a letter containing the preliminary allegations against them.

- They have 72 hours to respond. Thereafter, Student Discipline presents the investigation bundle and the implicated student’s statement to the chairperson of the Central Disciplinary Committee (CDC), who must decide whether a matter must be referred to a disciplinary hearing.

- If a matter is referred to a disciplinary hearing, the implicated student must be given a notice of ten workdays of the hearing. A disciplinary panel will preside over the hearing and decide on the outcome of the hearing.

- Under certain circumstances the rector can suspend a student from the University pending disciplinary investigation.

- Because that decision is often taken under pressure and "in the heat of the moment", the Student Disciplinary Code make provisions for a confirmation of suspension hearing to take place before a CDC panel within five workdays to review/ratify or amend that decision.

- The Huis Marais residence management was made aware of the incident on Sunday, whereafter they immediately reported it to the relevant university structures for urgent investigation.

- Since then, the investigation received priority attention by SU management. The student captured on the video was suspended from the university pending the outcome of an investigation on Monday, 16 May.

- The Equality Unit expedited its investigation and finalised its report into the matter and the report with recommendations has been referred to the Office of Student Discipline.

- All cases are confidential, and the confidentiality of the complainant and respondent should be respected.
- A decision on whether the findings will be made public will be communicated in due course.

- The Confirmation of Temporary Suspension Hearing was set for Thursday 19 May 2022 before a central disciplinary committee panel.

- The Student Discipline Code requires this hearing to take place within five working days after receipt of the temporary suspension letter by the implicated student. The purpose of this hearing is for the CDC to decide whether they confirm, amend or set aside the rector’s decision to suspend the student pending the finalisation of the disciplinary proceedings.

The Office of Student Discipline had commenced its investigation into the complaint by Thursday's reply to News24's questions.

Not only do their disciplinary procedure need to be conclusive, but due to public (and social) demand it needs to be inclusive. Interests.

Stellenbosch faculty abhors incident of student urinating on a peer’s belongings

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Stellenbosch University says the past cannot be undone but it will work to resist its legacy

Last weekend, in the early hours of the morning, a white student in the student residence Huis Marais intruded into a black student’s room and urinated on his belongings.

In the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Stellenbosch University, we study what people do, think, believe, create, hope and fear; what we have achieved and where we have fallen short. Ultimately, we are concerned with who we are, in our individual capacity and in our relationship to others. The incident at Huis Marais is about all of these questions.

Regardless of the outcome of Stellenbosch University’s investigation, our faculty wants to express its abhorrence at this incident. Urinating on a fellow student’s laptop and study materials shows a gross disregard for the victim’s person and for his intellectual endeavours. It is a denial of his equal standing as a fellow student and fellow human being.

Whiteness — an accident of birth — is not a source of moral superiority. The character of a person is measured by their actions. There is no excuse for a white student treating a black student as someone whose work, whose dignity, whose personhood counts for less than their own. None.

These were the actions of one individual towards another. But they happened in this country and at this university, and therefore against the background of a history of racism, racial nationalism, exclusion and oppression.

Stellenbosch is a different place from what it was under apartheid. Nevertheless, our actions as students, lecturers and administrators are framed by the history of our country and our institution.

As a faculty, we acknowledge this. We strive, in what and how we teach, to face up to our bitter past and to equip our students to walk into the future as thoughtful, critical citizens with a sense of dignity, agency and mutual responsibility.

We do not wish to appropriate the experience of the victim of this racist incident as a “teachable moment”. It is for him to decide how to make sense of the incident and we should respect his autonomy — the very autonomy denied to him by the perpetrator. What is required of us is to reflect on our actions, in whatever role we may play at this university.

Our commitment as a faculty is that we will not look away from racism. We will continue to try to understand its sources and manifestations and to incorporate this understanding into our teaching. It is only by knowing what is going on in the world that we are able to change it.

We cannot undo the past but we can resist its legacy. It is in this spirit that we will keep on asking who we are and how we got here, so that we might make a more just world for those living now and for those who will come after us.

Professors Anthony Leysens, Lindy Heinecken and Vasti Roodt are respectively the dean, vice-dean: research, and vice-dean: teaching and learning in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Stellenbosch University.

Oh, my...
Yep, if there was any faculty you'd expect to use the typical buzzwords it would be that one.

By the way, has the accused "racist" made any statement yet or is this still just a modern day witch hunt?

When I was in the SADF my initiation and other conscripts out of basic training landing on the border of South West Africa and Angola, we had to rub our genitals with toothpaste or vicks vapor rub.
This was forced upon us. not just by white afrikaaners (which I despise) , we had a lot of the coloured cape corps in the camp that was involved.
It was never seen as a racist thing.
Damn we had p!ssing contests between each other too.

The Blacks today just seek revenge just because they can, thinking they will benefit from any upheaval they can find.
it will be their downfall and constant poverty thinking they will succeed in a black only society based on socialism.
I wish I could be around in the next 50 years to see the mess they created upon themselves.

They have postponed the mid year exams that was due to start on Monday by a week. a Lot of upset people moaning on Facebook about ruined travel/holiday plans.

Students being students, big night on the town in Stellenbosch tonight as they celebrate an extra week of prep time for exams.

Would explain the kid from Stellenbosch who crashed into 3 cars with his LR Defender last night.
