Around here we're always told you need to be smart to be a CEO. Then along come de Ruyter, Saltzmann and Gaiduk.
Most CEOs have the grammar and intelligence of a manager at a car wash, all they say is, I dont give a fck, just get it done

R800k is most likely the money owed to her, in the US it would be R8 million

You've worked in the US? The boss can fire you if he has a headache and you irritate him. Elon Musk just fired a lot of Twitter. More might go. No consequences.

Execs can be fired at will, but they can take you to court for compensation. Even the execs fired by twitter will be paid.

Now, imagine this is your wife being fired for being pregnant.

The bird has been freed” at Twitter with Elon Musk’s takeover, and now it looks like a bunch of executives are getting millions of dollars to stop doing their jobs.

Well that not a bad deal!!!

Firstly, I would not be dumb enough to start a business locally and create workplaces in this country. The government and laws are solidly against the business or any person wanting to start a business. That being said, I pretty much agree with the statements above. These people wanted to do business in SA. They disagreed with me and done what I never would have done in the first place. They needed to invest in an HR department, as well as a legal department to help them not falling victim to courts.

You can't even afford to pay R2k month for medical aid, where the hell will you get the money to start a business. Delusions of grandeur.....

Isn't that only in the "at will" states?

Toxic company. I hope the wine is not as toxic as the management of that wine farm.

So much is wrong with how things were handled. I hope the lady takes the money and walks away. R800K can do quite a bit; she could buy a flat, go on holiday, invest it, etc.

According to the court judgment, she worked from the hospital before the handover and took work calls.

Really disgusting that a company would expect an employee to work while lying in hospital.

Welcome to South Africa mate... that's one of the reasons why we left SA. That and the ANC. But overwhelmingly I got tired of all the abuse at work.

The Gaiduk's have been given much praise. They also acquired Knorhoek which is sister to Quoin Rock, well, the properties were separated and then liquidated IIRC in which transaction the Gaiduk's acquired Quoin Rock and then in 2019 Knorhoek.

I doubt this incident will impact their business. From my view, it doesn't seem that they had incorporated HR, many 'small' owned vineyards with wineries source HR. I hope that this incident promotes better business consciences and procedures within their organisation. In the case not, history tends to repeat.

Let's put aside labour law for a bit.

Do these business owners think this a good way to treat their employees? You don't need any law to tell you not to be a c*nt.

As a business, all they should have demanded from her were baby photos once she gave birth.

It you want the best out of your employees, you respect them.
