Ster-Kinekor reduces retrenchments and cinema closures

I bought a cheapie Hisense 75inch TV from Game on special for R12k a year ago. Why bother going to the movies? TVs are just going to get larger and cheaper and cinemas will end up going the way of the dinosaur.

Back in the 90s and prior when 54cm CRTs were the living room norm, cinemas gave you that extra "feeling". Not anymore.

Back to the Future 2 is a definite, pondering Gladiator and The Mummy too. Those two I did see on the big screen back in the day, Back to the future stuff was before I could cinema at will.

At the cinema there are no snack and pee breaks and MyBB and whatever distractions, if cheap enough or good enough movie, I rather go to the cinema.

Condolences on that Non(hi)sense TV. I still go to a restaurant from time to time even though I have a Philips airfryer at home.

However, we have launched ‘Throwback Cinema’, which is designed to re-release classic titles at R50 per ticket to remind our customers of the unparalleled experience in a cinema.”

Ster-Kinekor relaunched Throwback Cinema in early May 2024, starting with screenings of Chicago.
Does this CEO know whats the definition of a movie classic?

Not sure why they didn’t think about doing these throwback movies long time ago, it’s a cool idea.
Went to see Back to the Future and just booked my seat for Part 2…
Yup. Thinking of taking my nephew to watch The Mummy later in the month.

Waste of money cinama should have died decades ago.

* Smelly seats
* Smelly people
* noisy people
* can't pause
* can't drink booze
* uncomfortable seats
* too load or too soft
* have to drive and pay for it

Nope nothing beats home cinema.

Mummy and Gladiator are classics, they should launch Gladiator a month before the 2nd one comes out.

dried c** on the seats... (what do you guys think happens in the weekday morning shows when its empty? I certainly wasn't going for most lectures at campus....)

the booze problem can be easily solved by adding a few shots into your coke or slush beforehand

Would love for the drive-in to return.
It's actually way better. Especially noise wise or just for a pomp.

Just need to control people stepping on brake lights or those kinds of nuisances.
