That was to highlight what hypocrites they are - although I believe they are not going to back off this one anytime soon. Apples wants to control your everything and thats how you like it.

XBox, Playstation, Nintendo, and countless other companies, including cell phone companies also have "closed" systems. Why are people always bitching about Apple?
You clearly dont visit the console sections of this forum then.
A closed system guarantees a good experience for the customer. Kind of sucks, but if you don't like it there's always Android!
LOL :D

I'm with Roux on this. Apple people pay their stupid tax then try to convert the rest of us to make themsleve feel better. BlackBerry users are doing the same thing...

We need the two extemes- fanbois and haters to balance each other out so the normal oke (me I guess, though I lean towards hater) can make decisions based on some sort of middle ground between both sides.

Form follows function in my books, which cuts out almost all Apple products- THINK ABOUT IT!

I think you're being a bit harsh here. Imagine you were forced to stick with the same beliefs and opinions you had in 1984. I don't think it's hypocrisy, it's changing with the times to a model best suited to the current environment. That's also called "good business".

with this type of response from jobs, leads me to believe that apple is now bigger than their customers?! honestly if a customer has a query regarding your product would you really tell them to F-off and buy something else?!

I disagree, it's because of the closed Apple eco-system, that everything "functions" so well together. There's a lot to be said for the peace-of-mind one gets from sticking Apple products. (My Airport Express streams music via my Airport Extreme, connected to my Macbook Pro's iTunes library which I can control via my iPhone. All of this is incredibly easy to setup and operate, so much so my gf could likely do it)

quick question - why can't these guys that need porn permanently on the phone just copy images to it?
or copy movies onto it?
or use the safari browser?

why the need for a porn App? I don't see the use of something like that - i mean, what's the USE of such an app? a big button that sends you to a url in safari or a photo gallery? i don't get it?

I'm not an Apple fan - don't have one, don't want one. But this attitude of theirs regarding porn gives them a +1 in my books. They sell units on which porn is limited. You buy, guess what, units on which porn apps are limited. I bought a Nokia5800 on which I can run only Symbian. Not the OS I like most, but I chose the phone and I won't complain simply because Nokia won't release all the specs to allow OS developers to put something else on.

Package deal - nice device, cool features, (for some) less cool limitations... To buy or not to buy - choose.

You are forced to use Apples products/programs though. Can't just plug your pod into my PC and get my music. Can't get your devices to interface with 85% of the rest of the world. Functional. Sure.

Well that's the system you choose to buy into. I, like many other users have chosen this, it wasn't forced upon us. I don't have a need to interface with 85% of the world. I just want my life to function. This system works really really well for me. People just need to understand that Apple has a different approach.. if it doesn't suit you, then don't use it. There are so many other alternatives for you to choose from.

Some of the words used to describe apple in this forum show a lack of understanding on this issue.

[...and I kind of take offense to being called a mindless Apple drone because I choose this system]

Imagine you were forced to stick with the same beliefs and opinions you had in 1984.
Dude, 1984 is a 1949 novel by George Orwell about how messed up things are in the future year 1984. It is about a big brother government that controls all the aspects of society where people live in poverty but are lead to believe things are much better than before (spot a similarity here).

Anyways, in 1984 Apple pulled an extremely clever stunt (I will give them that much - it was brilliant). During the most watched moment on TV, the American super bowl, they aired an ad that plays off in the fictional world of Orwell's 1984. IBM is depicted as Big brother and Apple's freedom runner "shatters" big brother. The ad ends with "why 1984 won't be like 1984"
Read more here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984_(television_commercial)

What is ironic about it that a few years later Apple was using IBM chips in their computers.
EDIT : Not only that, but now they are turning into big brother themselves.

Don't believe everything you buy - especially if you are buying fruits.

Jobs: "Folks who want porn can buy Android"
Me: "ok"

whats the problem?

I don`t like the guy, but I don`t see a problem with him being honest about his product`s self-imposed limitations.

android ftw. i'm with keeper here about porn apps.
why do you need an app when you already have the largest porn app on your phone - your browser.
although... a large percentage of 'apps' are really just glorified arb web pages anyway.

Folks who want porn can buy and Android phone.
but honestly people. if this was legit would jobs really have screwed up the grammar?

Most of the porn apps are spam crap anyway, man... Apple haters look for the smallest reason, lol pathetic. Makes me love apple even more by stroking my "I'm more superior" ego lol.

Thanks pumpkin.. we all know about Orwell's book, as well as Apple's ad. What I was saying applied to the year, not the book.

Restricting people on what they can use on devices they paid for is just wrong.

Reminds me of the Afrihost crowd, accepting, accepting until they get fscked over. Where is Apple going to draw the line. It's BS, period!
