They should just rip the poles out the ground. Where's Bethelsdorp, I will do it myself.

This would be a very interesting case if it leads to litigation. Whilst Telkrap are legally entitled to erect poles on your property, I don't believe that this can currently can be seen as an inalienable right (akin to public servitude requirements), particularly in the light of technology convergence and other carrier mechanisms. She probably doesn't have the bux for this, like most of us. Perhaps that poor woman's best option, would be to make friends with her local councillor and try the political pressure route...

thisgeek, good idea, but use a Telkom bakkie that hijacked earlier. I wouldnt want to damage my own car to make Telkom upset. Use their own!

I've got what amounts to a cylinder about 3/4m high with a diameter of about 15cm - any idea what it is? Its full of wires. Telkom is forever wanting to access it but they get put off when my wife tells them she cant control the dogs.

I could hire a chainsaw for waaaay less than R6000.

A cunning plan sir.

However may I suggest that prior to doing the deed one writes serveral letters over a period of weeks to the local council complaining about flocks of woodpeckers disturbing you ? Tell them that the critters seem to have a particular fasination with a certain pole in your yard.

It's still applicable, unless amended by subsequent law/proclamation - no energy to look it up...
