Emergency fund first, then TFSA then RA then play around with stocks.

But after your emergency the fund the first 33k you have available must go to TFSA.

Thanks Hamster for the feedback.. Well the ETF's for my TFSA i would be in for the long haul.. but my Equities Profile.. I am not too sure what to do here.. Sell as i make profit or just stick with it for divides paid? Not sure what other options would be best..

Go long term, save yourself the hassle of short term trading which is both time consuming and stressful, enjoy your life. That's what I do. In fact I switched some of my ETFs to Unit Trusts for that very reason - out of sight :p

Not always. Consider a guy who is able to pump about R90k (or some sizeable sum) pa into his RA. Come tax time he can get back more than the R33k needed to fund his RA. In this case you'll do better going RA first I reckon. Get the tax break, invest the returns. TFSA vs RA is not that black and white.

And careful of the "R33k MUST go to your TFSA" bit, there are things like debt, bonds, children't future university funds etc. that don't belong in a TFSA.

True I'm refering in this case to securing your own future first. So little people will actually be able to live of their retirement savings.

Or use your emergency fund to play around in shares. It's liquid enough to sell when you need the money for an emergency and skip the TFSA that's boring.

Sort your retirement out first. Time is the only thing you have, make it work for you now rather than then.
I'm still young, I'll have time to worry about retirement later, but its almost covered by my work pension fund.
My first goal was to be debt-free, so I paid off all the expensive debt that I had like store accounts and stuff now I'm only left with a mortgage and car finance(that I get at a special rate because of where I work). Now my extra money/savings/emergency fund goes about in equal portions to my hobbies, home renovations and playing with shares. I'll use the TFSA when I find ETFs that interest me that's available to it.
