What did you put in and when did you put it in?
R1900 growth on R10000 over a year is 19% which is very good.
But R1900 on R50000 over a year is 3.8% which isn't that great.
Ok well I have R8900 in total and I started 14 months ago. So total put in was R7000.

Curro is my only share that has given me growth so far:

Lonmin PLC (LON) Profit/(Loss) % -71.43% :crying:
Alexander Forbes Group Holdings Limited (AFH) Profit/(Loss) % -13.17%
Barclays Africa Grp Limited (BGA) Profit/(Loss) % -3.55%
Anglo American PLC (AGL) Profit/(Loss) % -24.09%
Curro Holdings Limited (COH) Profit/(Loss) % 2.83%

I've also got Alexander Forbes, was hoping for a nice upswing :(

Not very diversified.

That's 27% growth which is quite good for investing.

Awesome. Then I will leave it there to grow. And then play some stocks. Very exciting.

If you started in January 2015 and invested only R500 a month in Curro, you would have accumulated approximately 161 shares throughout the year. At the share price today, you would have made about R2153.04 profit on your R6000 investment. If the price drops tomorrow, so will your profit.

Rather stick with Sanlam. The advantage you have is that they have professionals who invest your money for you. Had you invested in Lonmin, you would have lost almost your total investment. If you invested in MTN you would have lost a lot of money. If you invested in Telkom, you would have lost money. If you invested in something else, you probably would have lost some of your capital.

I would not advise any person to take their money each month and make use of a service such as EE to invest their own money, unless they have extensive investment experience. The chances are very good that you will lose a lot of money.

Out of interest, what unit trust is it?

With that return, agree with the rest, keep with it. But you could probably start chucking any extra into a TFSA with EE. DBXUS (I guess) would have also given you a decent return

Not sure. I spoke to one of there people and told them I wanted a low to medium risk unit trust. This is what I got. Didn't even know the return I was getting was so good. Wondering how much is taken for fees. Think they said 1%. Need to check the contract.

With that kind of return, make sure it's indeed medium risk.

Just saw that ArcelorMittal took a 9% fall this morning. Against my better judgment, just jumped the bus 20 minutes ago and grabbed a number of shares. See they gone up again, and I am in the positive now, so hopefully will be making a small profit from them...

Edit: What a fu**up! Down -30.81%

Are you holding on for the rights issue?

No. I plan to take advantage of the huge fall they are currently experiencing.

I will not wait for their rights offer. Their rights offer will be followed by a BEE deal in which they will sell a large portion of the company. Then they plan to sell off some bonds.

This is not good news.

I will have all my money out of there before the BEE deal and rights offer comes into play. This will also be the end of ArcelorMittal when the BEE deal comes into play.

Do you think its worthwhile to grab a couple of hundred rands worth of stock in the morning for a possible profit ?

The share dropped by over 30% at closing time and it closed at R3.25 per share.

I am trying to find the reason for the huge drop today, but yes, I think there is a big opportunity to make some big money here in the very short term. Their price is undervalued and I think it will climb again to over R4.

Tomorrow is a public holiday, but damn, I will definitely probably try to put in another 20k on the 17th if the price is still down there.

The company is selling shares, closing plants and cutting jobs as it seeks to return to annual profitability for the first time since 2010

Though I don't have that kind of money to throw around, i would certainly be happy to make an extra couple of rands :)
I'm with you, I'll also be grabbing some shares on the 17th.

I hope you mean specifically with regards to single shares.

ETF's are a bit of a different story and surely you'll agree as a longterm investment platform there isn't much that can go wrong by using EE and doing it yourself.

Snapped up some Capitec shares at midday when they were at their most volatile. A bit higher than what I expected and is already trading at -1.46%. But here's to hoping something good will come of tomorrows meeting, or has that been canceled with Gordon back at the helm? If not then should bounce back in the new year.

Wish I could have gotten them yesterday. Would rather use debit card next time than wait for funds to clear.
