Okay, I have placed my first order with them. Was relatively easy and fast. NYSE still closed and they did notify me that the order will be executed when the market opens. So, will monitor and see how it goes.

From what I have seen you can follow other traders who are doing well. You just tell them to copy that trader.

They have a very nice platform indeed. In addition to buying shares, I started playing with Oil price. Up $2 for now :)

Maybe dump EE and go etoro keep money outside SA. Earing dollars seems so much sweeter.

There cellphone apps are good as well.

Fairly choices overall, I'm not sold on DSY but you can't go wrong with those (expensive!) choices.

Nice selection - fairly well diversifies and hedged. For me I might skip Tiger and Nampak. Prefer AVI and Rhodes in the food space. No financials? Might put in some OML. Maybe VOD.

Lastly - maybe a small (5%) of total in a few small caps

Any reason all the banks are going down again?

Barclays threatened that they are leaving SA. I know that they are in talks with a number of players in a buyout to get out of South Africa. This will definitely cause the finance market to come crashing down. The other 3 major banks are busy with meetings with Barclays to try and prevent this.

Not sure, however, if that would be impacting the market right away, but a total collapse is imminent next year if Barclays do withdraw from SA.

Barclays have been threatening for quite a few days already and if anything stocks still went up after Gordon was made finance minister. Don't think it's related to that.

Then I have no idea.

Probably a sign of the current SA economy and investors' attitudes towards it.

Edit:

Ah, nevermind, here you go: All 5 banks are now rated junk:

Moody's changes the outlook of five South African banks to negative

I stayed out of financials as SA is pretty much on unsteady ground and OML has just been downgraded to an under perform rating .
Tiger has sold off it's Nigerian business that was not performing so we should see it start to go up .
