My investments are showing 40% return. Well when I say investments I mean the USD that I bought in June.

If I considered the rand something worthwhile I would consider it gains, but its a Zim dollar right now.

I have decided to just hold it for now. I do not have money to buy bargain stocks at the moment and I am also a bit scared the stocks will just slip even more.

So now its just a waiting game. And I will wait for how ever long it takes the market to come back to life again.

Firstrand up nicely again, almost in the black for me. Alexander Forbes is a trainwreck though, down 12%

It dropped with the rest of the JSE on the 6th of January. The matric results had nothing to do with it.The matric results were expected and if anything it would mean more investment as the public schooling system is why the results are so poor, not the private sector.
Still doesn't explain why it didn't take a tumble during most of the turmoil and only when the results came in.

It did take a tumble during the turmoil. The results were expected and if anything good for private schools. Remember Curro students write IEB exams, not the same ones as public schools. The IEB results were good, the poor public ones were to be expected.

No, you're not listening. It didn't take a tumble during MOST of the turmoil and some were reporting it to be doing good. It only started taking a tumble when the results came out. You're looking at only a small part of the turmoil which happens to coincide with the release of the results.

The results came out at midnight? The stock would have dropped before the chinese market opened in that case?

Looking at the graphs I posted it took a tumble as far as I can see.

OK man, the poor results of students caused a company building schools to drop in value because they are now less likely to build more schools since people are fed up with them and are going to stop sending their children to school.

The fact that the majority of shares on the JSE are taking a dive and people are selling of company shares in favour of pushing it into gold or offshore interests has got nothing to do with it and is purely coincidental.

Thank FSCK the Department of Education and Wits isn't listed!

I went long on the DAX @ 9900

For every 1 point it goes up I make a R3 with an initial outlay of R700.

The DAX will open higher this morning, currently at 10042.

I expect it will hit 10500 afterwhich I will close and wait for it to crash again.

First time investor here. Instead of spending my hard earned cash on booze and cellphone contracts I want to build a portfolio.
Right now it seems foreign investments is the way to go. Which platforms do you guys use to buy foreign shares?

Dont discount local right now, there are some good discounts out there. Also not sure if you have seen how the ZAR has improved overnight, can have a massive impact if you go in foreign right now! My 5 cents
