That was pretty much the pick of the day, I imagine you selling before close of business today?
Yes, for this share I need at least the monthly MACDO above zero before I buy long term, should be in 3 months.

.....CFD's can be dangerous when the market moves against you, I've lost lots of money and I've also made lots of money using derivative products...be careful

Derivatives. Lots of money to made and lost there. And for living on the edge one sells naked options.

I'm not smiling just yet as I'm still down, but I'm sure those guys who bought in this week at the low end are beaming.

Out of interest for you guys day trading, or rather short term trading to you have a preset "take home" value at which time you bail out?

Like do you hit +10% and then that's your line in the sand and you sell and basically take the small wins?

Or do you make your +10% then shift your stop/loss up to a new higher level and try to push it harder?

I'm considering taking some money and just doing the short term trading thing as well but with a single stock at a time and my logic is that I would work on a +X% value and the moment I hit that I should sell and then buy something else and in doing so grow the amount over time.

Obviously I'm thinking of doing this with EE as it seems to be working for many of you, but then I don't have real stop/losses and would have to rely on an App or something to notify me when I need to make a sale.

Standard Bank OST supports stop losses and trailing stop losses, all for the low fee of R70 odd per month for a share trading account. Two trades per month, and you don't pay the R70 monthly service fee. I've been using it for a while and I have no complaints.

If you want to do this I would suggest working with a single stock at all times. If you focus on one stock only you get to know it and start to learn it's movements, support, resistance, reaction to news and general idiosyncrasies. It's boring as hell focusing on eg. SASOL every single day, but it's much better than jumping around from one thing to another.

As the saying goes: An expert is one who knows more and more about less and less until he knows absolutely everything about nothing.

SGL hottest share on the market today?
Down by -1.35%, AQP by -3.97%. JSE up by 2.9%. Between the 3 only made 0.15% today. Still 12% better that what the bank gives me but was hoping for 1%.

2.81% up for a day not bad. Astoria is heading for crash. I might sell by monday to save 15% gain.

You reckon? It's my biggest position so if you're sure of that, please share why. I don't feel like losing more of my capital.

Yes all of them is still in the red since your initial investment.

1 good day does not make up for a bad month

Sucks Penis balls, but luckily you as well are invested in quality content companies that won't fold in 18 months so you buy now when shiat is on the floor and special.

Then 1 year for recovery and then profit all the way.

This is but a blimp in the long run

Yeah, that's the plan :) Eager to hear why Astoria is on the brink of crashing though. I though Simon Brown is super bullish on it!?!

He is, but he is human.

But I don't think they will close. Any company that survive this special season will return profit for investors in the long run

Anyone else here reckon that Astoria is a bad buy? My understanding is that they're still accumulating cash, all offshore, and are yet to take up positions. Management is solid though with the likes of Peter Armitage behind the wheel.

Astoria is linked to the depreciation of the rand. Not something that's going to last.
