Been buying various types of beans for 10+ years and settled most of the time on Woolworths Organic. I usually buy a 1Kg bag and decant this into a glass jar with a tight lid

The grinder is a Severin Burr Grinder. It takes about 30 seconds to grind enough beans for 2 cups

About 6 weeks back, it started to make a strange noise after 10 seconds and stopped. I emptied out the beans from the hopper but the grinding wheel seemed jammed. All attempts to release it failed. Took it to the supplier who reported that a stone has jammed in the machine and it was unrepairable

Bought another, same make. Sifted through the coffee and found another stone and several twigs. Mentioned it to Woolworths who promptly told me that my complaint is unique

So purchased a 500gm bag of beans. All ok for 10 days. Then halfway through grinding, it stopped. Emptied it out. I can see a small bent nail jammed between the wheel and conical cavity

This is now the second grinder to be written off. Woolworths seem unfazed and all they wanted was the bar-code of the product. I asked them to pay for the grinder, to be told that was quite impossible. Grinder costs R1200 odd

Yes I would take your complaint public. You have tried to address it with them directly and they are brushing you off.

That is not nice. Do they advertise it as cleaned?

Not coffee related but may help you: I know some wholesalers sell uncleaned beans in bulk which the consumer has to clean. We usually pour it over some newspaper and scoop handfuls into a container so we can spot dirt and foreign objects.

Been grinding beans now more for a decade. With a cheap grinder from clicks. Never ever, ever and never experienced that. And we often use Woolworths beans.

So two damaged grinders and debris in your coffee on another occasion? Maybe it's time to stop buying the same coffee?

Then it will just continue and the poor next oke will get the same. Thinking back it's probably what killed my machine about 2 years back costing me R2k to repair. Pretty sure it was a bag of Woolworths beans.

You do understand he can complain to Woolworths and switch to a different brand, right? Thus minimising the risk of future damage to his equipment.

Or he can take the beans out the pack one by one but it's beside the point. He does have a greater leg to stand on now and their QC is all in tatters.

Woolies QC going down the crapper it seems. Bought these lemons yesterday

And yes - I realise R22 is a lot for lemons but I was in a rush.

Got some superb beans from "Foodies" and less than 1/2 the price of Woolies beans. Poured them all out into a tray and no foreign objects. Nice, shiny beans

Severin coffee grinder on takealot daily deal for R1,099 if you need a spare.
