he he he he :D :D

Johannesburg - A leading South African think-tank called on the government on Tuesday to halt an exodus of skilled whites, saying their departure could prove fatal for the country's economy. Africa's economic powerhouse suffers from an acute lack of skilled workers in both the private and the public sector, a problem the group said was exacerbated by what it called misconceived legislation designed to boost jobs for blacks. "The country is very seriously short of skills - there could be potentially fatal consequences for economic growth," John Kane-Berman, chief executive of the South African Institute of Race Relations (SAIRR), said in an interview on Tuesday.

The African National Congress-led government, which took power in 1994, has sought to remedy apartheid-era injustices that discriminated against blacks by introducing an affirmative action programme. Poor quality education threatens economic growth. The white population in South Africa declined by 841,000 between 1995 and 2005, the biggest drop in at least 50 years, according to SAIRR, which was formed in 1929 to promote democracy and improve race relations in South Africa.

so after > 10 yrs, what does the gov not own/have its own people leading currently? I mean all the core things are taken over and monopolised :( I just hope these things end soon and by some miricle the anc looses and becomes one of 4 or 5 parties fighting for it. the way it is now with landslide general elections suck cause no one can keep them in check.

Useless lip service! They are doing nothing for the white citizen but closing doors! Talking to a visitor from NZ that left a year ago I think that is the only credible way left open to save you and your family. Leave this country! Its run by morons and annexed by criminals!

The white population in South Africa declined by 841,000 between 1995 and 2005,
741,000 of them are in the UK :D

I tell you what, EVERY small town in the UK has at least 2 or 3 South African residents - no joke.

I recently went up to remote Inverness in Scotland, the hotel I stayed at was managed by a South African and had five other South African staff.

Where I live, there are 6 South African people staying in and around town and this is some tiny non-descript village in the south of england.

London is simply choc-full of "saffas" - you can't go anywhere without bumping into them.

Wonder where all your qualified doctors, engineers, IT specialists etc. have gone?

Here, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or (to a lesser extent) the USA.

Fact is, South African whites find it easy to adapt, due to the strong ties with the rest of the western world.

It's not exactly rocket science why so many left and the truth is, it's just going to keep on happening until the social situation in SA normalises.

In the past, young south african whites would take a year out overseas and come home. These days, their parents are saying "stay there, make a life for yourselves" - struth.

Another interesting factoid is that coloured and black south africans are doing the same.

I stayed in a shared house in London for a few months ran by cape coloureds - really cool people - they are getting more and more common in the UK. Also black south african young people are starting to get more common place.

But I don't want to contradict my earlier feelings - that a lot of this is just normal "globalisation" - people DO move around the world more and more these days, the global economy is starting to make this a neccessity rather than a choice.

You go where the jobs are, or where your career can move forward - simple economics.

Not everything boils down to "crime" ;)

AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA that gave me a good laugh.
So let me get this right, so not to get mixed up.
They rob us of every thing, take our farms away, give jobs to people that cant do them.
We aren't safe anywhere, we cant get jobs because its gone to some black person that cant do it. they say that every one of there failure is our fault. THey treat us like crap and they want us to stay here and just take it. I think not.
With a article like this, it just proves that they need us, more than we need them.

Try going to Southfields or Wimbledon in London, you'll think you're back in South Africa!

True, to be honest I think literally every person I know plans to leave once they've finished studying, and plenty have left already and studied overseas etc. Heard a figure of 1,5 million SA'ns in the UK, wouldn't be surprised, remember only about 10% of people declare themselves as emigrants to home affairs when they leave, and plenty of people here have EU/Brit passports so they aren't even counted as immigrants.

I'm a skilled guy as well - see www.oilcareers.com and see if you can find a reason to stay.

ZA skills are in great demand - especially those schooled in the bad Apartheid schools as we have a wide knowledge, know how to work and have a well developed common sense.

The biggest problem I have with the measures implimented under the ideology of "fair discimination" is that it cannot possibly be fair. To be fair it would take such an amount of administration that would have to take into account economic standing, education quality, nutritional quality during and after the important growth phase of birth and the age of 8 etc. It is simply not possible to do it fairly. Using skin color as an indicator of advantaged and disadvantaged is hugely unfair because who is more advantaged between two peers, one white and one black. The white kid grew up in Danville with a drunk dad and a mom who has only Matric and works as a sewing assistant to a makeshift tailer at a womens salon in Boksburg and went to public school?

Or perhaps the black kid who's dad is a highly paid councilor in the Tshwane Metro, drives around with a BMW 6 series car and who's mom is a director of some new AA company and went to private school?

AA is too cumbersome for any government on earth to administer fairly. Rather focus on the poor in general. Impliment measures to make schooling in poorer areas better. Give the townships better infrastructure and subsidise primary and highschool.

There is no such thing as fair discrimination. Only God can do that.

Exactly and if you can't do it fairly then rather stay away from it, but do they really want it to be fair? I have to admit I have my doubts.

For me it's bye bye SA, hello South America.

:) Hope to move to SA (South America) at some point in the next few years, but will be heading back to the US in Sept. 2007. No strong reason for me and my skilled family to stay longer than needed in SA. :(

Now this is cool. I'm so sick of people talking about Australia, the UK or USA. I'm glad you're actually going somewhere where you can broaden your mind and get out of that Anglo comfort zone.

Good on ya mate!
