I'll be out of action with the photos for a while.

We were the proud Xmas sponsors of a household full of electronics, cameras and jewellery to an underprivileged syndicate this weekend.

They even took my 2TB external HDD on which I religiously backed up all my photos. :crying:

Dude, lame, sorry to hear that.

Insurance can get all that back, but damn them for taking the external. Do you backup your photos online as well?

I have about 5% of my pics backed up on Dropbox. Nothing else. Bought the external specifically for back up purposes.

Can't even describe how I feel.

I lost the drives on my server with all family photos and videos on it. Using a drive recovery app I managed to recover quite a bit of them, but still a lot lost.

Since then I have made it a habit to sync with Picasa once a week. EVERYTHING gets stored in the Picasa cloud now.

Picasa is part of Google right? So this would count as Google Drive space?

Not If within a certain resolution for photos and length for videos. Unlimited space if within these requirements.
Will dig out the rules quick.

That's quite awesome, will check it out then. I also have some of my photos online but not all since it's too much.

That is terrible news. Did you lose all the baby photos too?

Anyhow, my backup strategy involves two portable HDDs --- keep one in my office at work, and swap then around when I update a backup. That way you at least have off-site backup that is reasonably fresh.

I wish I could but there's a problem due to the sheer volume I shoot - I'd probably never catch up.

After the break in at my house, my backup strategy is to Pratley steel my external HD to my desk and a backup WD Live network HD in my laundry cupboard attached to my switch.

Photos that don't count towards your storage allocation can have a max resolution of 2048x2048.
Vids cannot be longer than 15 mins.

Anything above the listed max will count towards your storage.
