Hehe, cool! I'm thinking of replacing my f/1.8 with the f/1.4. Not so much for the aperture, but I find the AF performance in bad light pretty piss poor on the f/1.8. I got much more reliable AF out of my 24-105L f/4 in much darker conditions than I can use the 50mm f/1.8 at all.

Not to take anything away from the 50mm f/1.8 - it's fantastic lens, even if it was 50% more expensive.
Really? I was snapping away quite happily in minimal light tonight with mine and it performed like a trooper. In fact I'm not in any hurry to get the 1.4 after tonight.
Very nice! Is this from your gig?
It was an ancillary event. I drew the short straw with the other photographer. Nice guy . . . even if he is a Nikon shooter. :D

Looking at that pic, I'd have to say I had somewhat darker circumstances in mind. Poorly lit party, so dark I couldn't make out people's faces through the viewfinder. The 24-105L coped in this situation (50 out of 51 shots were in focus), while the 50mm f/1.8 didn't cut it.

I think two things came into play:

1. The 24-105L is a good bit sharper wide open, right through the range except at 105mm, than the 50mm. This can only help AF in poor light.

2. The USM motor makes it a bit more reliable. I see the 50mm focus and re-focus even in good light.

Annoyingly, this is the one lens where I often feel the need for overriding AF, but it has no FTM. That's mostly why I'm interested in the 1.4 USM model. That said, it's pretty low on my shopping list.

What's the main event?

Well that, and the fact that it is just sooooo beautiful :p

This is my first Asus board and I kinda like it. I'll buy Biostar again, but for now I'm sticking with the Asus.

I love Asus boards. But do your research. Asus have made some really bad boards and then usually correct them with a revised board later. I have a 4 year old machine which is still rock solid! I take Asus over biostar anyday.

I didn't know Konica still existed. Or is that an old roll? What's it like? I used to like their consumer 200 ASA film - liked the colours more than anything else. Back then Fuji's consumer stuff was not great at all.
