Thanks!

Wish my D40 had bracketing.
Why? You can do the bracketing manually ;)

Otherwise, use RAW, and expose the pic for the shadows. You can then use the RAW converter to recover the detail in the highlights and make your darker images.

Depends on the dynamic range of your sensor really. Some will capture more details in RAW than others. But yes, manual bracketing is always an option if you are taking pictures of fairly stationary scenes.

Often the quicker you can do it the better. If I can fire off 7 bracketed shots in less than a second there is much less opportunity for movement than doing it manually.

RAW is great but there is a definite limit to what you can recover.

The thing that bugs me is vibration from the mirror slap.

As shot:

After post:

Still some blown out areas, but only one shot for the source :)

Cool. Will try once I get my tripod. The idea of bracketing is much nicer though, being easier and all. And better for non-stationary shots as Roux said.

I've never shot in RAW.

Thank you very much Rouxenator :)
it was taken at Iso100, f10 and 6seconds.
It was just my luck that a car passed by and I got some strange looks from the two inside lol

Took this last night. Some heavy post processing involved. This is what I get up to when I can't sleep...

Edit: Can't seem to get the tags working.
Edit 2: The top link is wrapped in the IMG tags Idmelsa posted.
Edit 3: Realised that 'show images' was unticked in my settings...
